Anyone ever have one half of a MSD TL coil stop sparking?

It's an old single channel, dual post coil (4272). I kinda thought either both would crap out or it would work. Instead I have one terminal that won't spark and one that does.

It was the coil. I switched it out today. Where do I get a screaming eagle and does it put out the same power as a MSD?

It's a Harley Davidson motorcycle coil. Supposedly they're more reliable and slightly more powerful than an MSD coil. I haven't heard a lot on them but everyone that has tried one says they're awesome. I almost bought one last year and then I realized the problem was somewhere else. They're around $50-$60 at any local harley store.

Just call the Harley store down the road from you and see if they have one of those coils in stock...Probably cheaper than getting it shipped.

I busted up an MSD coil and replaced it with a screamin eagle. Worked great, most harley shops should have them in stock.

About how much do they cost? Im at school so nearly all the sites that sell stuff are blocked. What kinda gains are made from these aswell. Ive always heard MSD is great as long as it keeps working but never knew quite what it does. Better spark=more power im guessing?

eBay has the listing shown at $48 buy out. A more powerful spark will usually result in more complete fuel burn which can lead to more power but generally you won't notice the difference unless you're running really high compression where a small spark won't be sufficient or a bad fuel mixture that would normally foul the plugs. More volts are better but once you pass 40k-50k it's like bragging that your car has a top speed of 190mph instead of 180mph...you'll never use it anyway.

I went by the local Harley shop today to get the Screaming Eagle coil but decided to hold off. It doesn't have posts like my MSD coil. It has Holes in it where something plugs into it. I have no idea how it works so I figured I would ask you guys how you adapted it to MSD plug wires. Do you have to get Harley plug wires?

You can do one of two things. First being the best and most reliable and the second working good but has more potential for problems. The first is to buy terminal posts that you epoxy into position. The second is to pull the boot back and plug in your standard wire into the empty terminal. The second method uses the outside of the plug wire instead of the inside to transfer the current. The biggest problem with the second method is that it can allow water/condensation to get into the terminal and corrode the wires.

Remember my corroded plug wires at Daytona? That was an incorrect boot that didn't seal the empty terminal.
