I am unaware of any way to test it yourself reliably without special equipment.

Send it to someone to test it by substition.

someone with the E box already opened up preferably!

Id offer to do it, but my skis are outside under covers.

plenty accurate for 99% of the things it would be used for.

the accuracy per $ is far better for $3.99 than a $150 fluke

the extra $$ dollars buys TINY amounts of added accuracy.

from another site:

CEN-TECH 30756 $4.99 (www.harborfreight.com)

dcV ranges: 200mV, 2000mV (2V), 20V, 200V, 1000V
dcV accuracy: +/- 0.5%

dcA ranges: 200uA, 2000uA, 20mA, 200mA, 10A
dcA accuracy: +/- 1.0% for ranges 200uA, 2000uA, 20mA
dcA accuracy: +/- 1.2% for ranges 200mA
dcA accuracy: +/- 2.0% for range 10A

FLUKE 73 $129.00 at web-tronics

dcV ranges: 320mV, 3.2V, 32V, 320V, 600V
dcV accuracy: +/- 0.3%, +/- 0.4% for 600V

dcA ranges: 32mA, 320mA, 10A
dcA accuracy: +/- 1.5%

so +/- 0.5% for the $3.99 meter

and +/- 0.3% or 0.4% for the $129 Fluke

hmmmm?

Sounds like a very accurate multimeter.

I guess I'm not entirely familiar with the multimeter you bought, but in my head imagine it to be like the one Ross has.....which to me is well, good for checking continuity I guess.....maybe for a presense of voltage, but I dont' feel like it's very accurate. Then again, I also got one for uh......well, I have a decent fluke.

Throw it on the ground and see if it bounces or not,if it bounces its good if it breaks when to throw it its bad.

When I was in the military and we were talking about old multiplexer equipment, they told us that an old "maintenance" task was a drop test. Pull the card, drop it from waist high. I can't remember the real reason for doing it, but it struck me as very odd.
