Any Suggestions?

Today when I got done riding I was looking over my engine and tightening any bolts that were a bit loose and the top bolt on my crankcase was loose and come to find out it is stripped. So to see if a different one worked I took one from another part on the crankcase and this one wouldnt tighten either because everything inside is stripped. Im not going to ride it without this bolt missing, should I go to the hardware store and try to find a bolt a touch bigger and try to wrench it in? By the way my ski is a 650sx and the engine is about a year old, remanufactured.
Any suggestions on what to do?
thanks

I suppose a timecert might do the trick, along with a corresponding bolt (If the threads in the case are shot)

Can you describe a little more which bolt you are referring to? On Yamaha's all of the case bolts go in through the bottom, I think. The key ones to worry about are the 8 center section ones that hold the crank in.

Do you perhaps mean the motor mount bolts or head bolts?

Throwing a 'slightly larger' screw in may cause you to cross thread it and get it stuck, then you are in for more work. How about tapping it with a helicoil tap and throwing a helicoil in. Then you can use the correct screw.
