We have a project underway which involves a metal coating on an SJ. It is called:

LuminOre®, and is an innovative composite metallizing process that is changing the way the world works with metal. Our patented cold-sprayable process allows a layer of metal to be applied over almost any substrate, in virtually any configuration or design. The incredible results look, feel and act just like hot-cast metal, but without the weight and expense.

I wanted to know if there is any interest in this in the PWC community.

Metal

This is the prototype ski we are coating right now. The metal is called X-metal. A proprietary metal developed by LuminOre Inc. LuminOre® X-Metal resembles smoked chrome and there is no need to clear coat LuminOre X-Metal, X-Metal never tarnishes.

There are other types of metal :
Aluminum
Brass
Gold
Bronze
Z3
Nickle-silver
Stainless Steel
Iron

The added weight is very minimal, the less then 1 1/2 lbs. to the hood.

Are you going to apply it to the bottom and see what happens with handling? have you estimated total weight added if whole ski is coated inside and out. Maybe 10-15 pounds?

It is approx. 3oz. per Sq. Ft., We are planning to due the bottom of the hull as well, because it is real metal we can adjust the amount of friction with sanding and polishing.

Thanks M

Haha, Derek's gettin' ahead of himself, they have yet to spray the hull. And neither have seen water, although I presume it will hold up as well as or better than paint. I've seen the hood in person, and I'll say, it is unreal! The stuff looks so badass. That fake chrome paint stuff doesn't EVEN stand up next to it. The pictures really don't do it justice, you have to see the stuff in person.

looks awesome! i just wonder how much total weight it would add to a ski and how it would absorb a large shock like landing a BR on the side.

either way that would make one sick lookin ski.

I was wondering about stuff like this. I did some electrical work at a place that did injection molding and had a plating process for plastic. They did stuff like shower heads. I was thinking it would be cool to plate the grab handles, extinguisher cover and gas cap on a blaster.
