Another 'tracking down an air leak' thread

Really I just need a sanity check here. Windex is not bubbling up anywhere but it sounds like the leak is coming from the middle bottom of the fp manifold - maybe leaking into the water jacket I guess. Both surfaces are clean, there are no obvious cracks, the gasket is new, and I have shortened all eight bolts 2-3mm to make sure they are not bottoming out. What in the world? :banghead: My next step is to try another manifold, but anyone else got any other ideas?

Exhaust. Good point but now that you mention it, I guess it can't be leaking into the cooling system because I had pressurized that first and found out the fitting on my manifold was stripped out and leaking. That part is fixed but I'll check it again...

to find an air leak, I recomend using water w/ some dish soap in it... That's how we test all our tanks here at work... I don't think windex will bubble, will it???

Windex bubbled when i sprayed it on the leaky brass fitting but maybe cuz it was leaking worse. I'll try dish soap.

I had a brand new gasket in there and replaced it with a brand new gasket. Another thought is I could block off just before the manifold. That'll test the gasket and test the cylinder.

Thanks for the sounding board. I've been messing with one thing after another with this pos for two months and starting to go cross-eyed :cussing:

Good thoughts....do a leakdown test, that may point you in the right direction.

I feel for you on the wrenching. I've been fighting gremlins for months now. Finally got it worked out .... I think.
