Super Jet Another start “click” thread

Hi
I have a problem that’s gotten worse last rides..

Began with one click then start a couple of rides ago and now lots of trying before it starts.
SJ 2006, battery 12.4V holds when pushing button. Noticed when I got home that the “click” comes from e-box (can be felt laying my hand on the box) and it’s not a single one - it’s multiple. (clickclickclick or ttttt)
Do I need to investigate more or did I just find the fault? I can post a video if that helps.

Please help me out :)

i think thats the solenoid clicking to complete circuit to the starter. i would think that means you have an issue between there and the starter. either bad wire or connection, starter that has a dead spot or something like that. im not real smart with this stuff and could be completely wrong but just wanted you to get a response....

hopefully someone smarter can chime in :)

or now that i think back maybe thats a sign of a bad starter relay (solenoid) if the relay is suspect you can jump the two posts with a screw driver to check that

go easy on me buzzard if this is bad advice lol

Kinda sounds like a voltage drop when pressing start. First thing,
Clean grounds in ebox with light abrasives and test the starter relay. Pull the relay and apply 12 volts to the small wires, You should hear a click.

You are all right :)
Weak power before starter..
Began with swapping battery and I saw some corrosion on the connectors - filed that away and it starts right up..
Connections where tight and clean - I even tried loosening the screws a little and worked connectors back and forth for better connection with no change before.
Guess that corrosion is pretty strong when it finally comes..

Thanks guys for the ideas - should have investigated more before posting - my bad

oh, you can bitch about seeing the same vid year after year, but you want me to go easy on you when you give bad advice? WRONG! i'm letting you have it with both barrels LOL. a clicking Yamaha solenoid means nothing. it doesn't mean its making the battery connect to the starter. you can open the box up, power up the solenoid and check it with an ohm meter to see if its really working. the starter could be going bad too. you can bypass the solenoid by running a jumper cable from the positive batt terminal to the starter post. it should crank every time. if it doesnt, the starter is going bad. its easiest just to ohm the solenoid. I've seen many a Yamaha solenoid click and not work. everybody that said sand this or do that is just wasting your time

exactly what i said in way more words lol

i will always defer to your motor expertise but you do have to admit all miller videos look preeeety much the same :)

possibly the starter bendix is not working correctly. Over time the can get gummed up as grease starts to thicken. easy fix if thats the problem.
