Another Pissed SOB-REED PETAL?

So what is a reed petal in the first place? What do they do? And what are the symtoms if one breaks. How do I replace it?

Is seems like my machine is not getting gas, but I think it is. It hesitates when you get on the throttle and even shuts down sometimes...This is really pissing me off

OK, on the compression stoke the negative pressure in the crankcase allows fuel to enter. On the downstoke the fuel goes from the crankcase to the cylinder.

The reeds still prevent fuel from exiting the crankcase... they act as a valve.

If you have a broken reed, a tell-tale sign is white foam-stuff inside the flame arrestor and carb throat.

Well,

Since I broke this about 4 weeks ago I have not ridden. I think I may just put it up and work on it next summer. Its already cold anyways. Damn I thought I had it fixed too!

Well, they never have been and they are totally stock. But it started happening while I was riding, the cleaning thing sounds more like something that would happen if it was just sitting around

Sounds more electrical than fuel. I would pull the carbs and do a cleaning and rebuild, check the reeds while you have it apart. They should be flat on the cages, not open at all. If they are replace them or turn them over for the quick fix, trim the spark plug wires and put it back together.
