Ok i stripped my blaster completely and im ready to paint it.. anything i need to know while im there?

Should i block the rear exhaust outlet if im gonna do a side exhaust? Is it a good idea to do a side exit on a blaster?

Shall i also block the oil window?

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

Thanx
Zane..

1) You will have wasted your efforts (stripping the hull) if you do not reinforce the transom. Surf or not, you have put forth the effort to paint it so why risk having to try to match paint later on?

2) If you know you will NEVER go back to injection, glass over the oil window.

3) Not sure there is a benefit to side exhaust. Rear exhaust might cause probs if you ride in the surf.

4) See 1

5) Start here: Painting a ski: What you need to know and read up before posting paint questions. (this one is legit, you are covering your bases)

Re-inforce the rear.

The only benefit to rear exhaust is bling and no carbon on your pump. Drawbacks are noise and effort to do it.

Block it off! F--- oil injection!

LBE is working on a front exhaust for a blaster, I've thrown the idea around for quite sometime.

With a blaster, sometimes you come in really tail first, and it's not like a superjet in the sense that you can just drop a leg out of the tray to stabalize the ski. Often, they just topple off to one side or the other. With a little practice and throttle control, you can normally pogo it back under you....but man, just being able to throttle out would be GREAT.

Ok im not painting the ski myself.. im having someone paint it, so i dont need info on painting. I just wanted to know what to have him do as to glassing over the things i dont need like the oil injection window and maybe the compartment in the back.

As for the front side exhaust... is it somthing easy to do like the superjet or is it more involved... like is it even worth it or should i just keep it in the stock position?

Do u mean he's making one for hmself or a kit to sell?

He's just making one for himself. Just using the same ideas as you would for a SJ. He's using a different waterbox and bypassing the stock blaster exhaust plumbing.

Zane...

There are a few decent threads about reinforcing the transom on a blaster. People have/are doing them a few different ways.

-You can remove the lip that hangs over the back ass, because that is largely (almost completely) responsible for the degradation of the transom.

-You can simpley reinforce on the outside. Lay on some THICK glass and matte.

-You can create a smooth transition from the rear lip to the transom. This is "THE" fix for the blaster. Basically, flip it over and build tape damn and fill with foam. Shave to the desired shape and glass over.

Sorry my thickness dont quite exactly understand what u mean here... any pics? Seems like an way. Does that mean i dont have to cut the transom floor out and reinforce from inside like on www.wavejunkies.com ?

Id love to see pics if possible! Any?

personally, I think reinforcing on the inside is unnecessary.

I don't have pictures of the process. This waveblaster069's ski. He's one of the guys I ride with.

This wasn't the prettiest job in the world, but it's effective. You can take a little more time and smooth it out better for paint.
