Ankle

So I broke my ankle ridding yesterday. I thought it was just sprained so I came home flushed the ski out and put my foot up. I woke up this morning and it was swollen like crazy and all sorts of colors, so I decided to go to the ER. Well I have an oblique fracture of malledus, tomorrow I go see the orthopedic surgeon to see how he is going to pin and plate me up.

:crying:

Definitely sucks, it takes forever for ankles to get back to normal, or close to it. I don't think mine will ever be the same. Two years after my incident they are still disfigured.

Wow two years, you are scaring me. I'm going on little over two months on my injury. My doctor and therapist keep telling that swelling will eventually go down and it will look normal again.

I broke one and severely sprained both on a landing, not pretty. I spent 1 month in two casts and another with just one cast. I then went through 6 months of PT 3 times a week. I worked hard getting back to normal and have relatively normal use now but, when you look at them, they don't really look like your normal ankle. With just a glance they might but if you really want to look at them they don't.

Best of luck to everyone with ankle injuries. They suck and I know I never want to go through it again.

sorry to hear that!

what exactly did you do that broke it?

Lets start with the waves were the best they have been all year. I was surfing a wave and when I slashed the wave I got behind it, so in surf stance I decide to jump the wave going towards the shore. Some how my feet came out of the tray but I still held onto the ski and then the ski and I hit the water and my ankle took full impact to the tray. This is the second big skiing injury this year.

here's what to expect if you get screws and plates. it takes a long time to heal fully but you will be up and about very quickly.

Your scar is up the center. Did you break one side? Your scar looks good though.

yep up the center and tails off to the right at the bottom of my foot (top of pic). 9 screws and 2 plates, broke both bones in about 5 places.
