I guess we are gonna hear a lot of the same arguments after every WF untill the rules commitee makes a more conclusive scoring system, and clear cut rules governing am/pro class restrictions.

I’ve never been to witness a competition! Whenever I have been at the surf with some of the pros, I’m usually too busy chatting meeting new people to pay very much attention without looking through my camera’s lenses (and that is an entirely different view there in reality). Yet I did watch Pete do some nice stuff on flat water this past week at Wavedaze, and I was impressed to see such skill without surf or even wake to facilitate his techniques. Sorry about the negative things I just read, and I hope next year is better, for I might try to make it out. I hope all managed to still have a good time overall!:grouphug:

This was my point, specifically:

In the old days, focus was not on negativity. All you have to do is watch the daily news today (television in general if you wish to suffer), to see how we’ve been conditioned (via the media) to change our behavior overall in life. Negative news always is first to travel (and loudly) over positive news sadly.

If you wish to facilitate a growing sport (I believe most on here do), open discussion needs to target the positive aspects. Negatives should MOST definitely be addressed, yet differently. I imagine there were many GREAT things which took place at the World Finals (all the pros I have met have been respectable and positive and wonderful at what they achieve to accomplish). I would love to read/hear about these great things which surely happened (and see them one day as well)!

I was highly involved in another growing sport for approx 20 years (an active participant), but sadly the other participants couldn't keep their internal negativity at bay...the sport is therefore still trying to grow sadly for it all! I hate to see that happen to this fun group, for it is all such a great thing!!!

And that’s my .02 based on experience :grouphug:

Perhaps someone can tell us about some of these great things, from this point forward! :burnout:

it is discouraging to hear of all the stuff happening to the sport.

If you do it to win due to judges scoring, you will be sorely dis-appointed half the time. Some time ago I thought BK was a arrogant azzhole. Then I competed with/against him at Tupelo 2 years ago and got a much different opinion of him. Competing in freestyle has to be about having fun and chillin w/fellow competitors, if you try to make it more than that you will be as mad as I was after Nats 08. Bottom line is you compete for fun and fellowship w/a great group of guys and thats all you can expect from it.

i just think the rules need to be set in stone. rather than changed for a specific person
no matter what the sport is going in a good direction and hopefully still getting good press

:haha: (oh my gosh :bad:)

I can see his point through it all though!

I agree with him on the attitude portion! You have to compete with a “fun” mental mindset, or you can boink yourself in the long run (besides, what’s the point, if you’re not having fun…just quit then). People underestimate the power of the mind consistently.

Regarding scoring, I never paid attention to that either when I competed, but of course it did totally bite when it was not “just” in one way or another. My goal was to do my very best, and do better than I had ever done before; I always competed against myself, and simply forgot about everyone else. I always did extremely well for it too!

Come on…surely something good happened??? I loved the part about the females competing! Maybe one of them didn’t’ break their fingernail, that would be good eh, lol…do tell (no offense ladies, simply trying to make a point AGAIN)!
