correction, unlucky. some snot nosed kid contested the sale of a ski. it wasn't shipped so there was no proof that it was sent. the kid got his money back. luckly they found the ski and took matters into there own hands.

DOH! I mixed that up.

Let me reformulate my thoughts: Sake, you dealt with 2 ********bags - the kid, and Paypal.
They didn't care that you personally delivered the ski. You didn't have a tracking number.
Additionally, you did not follow rule #1 (you had a bank account with money tied to you pp account).

NEVER EVER EVER EVER use Paypal for large transactions.

I sold 2 couches on Ebay last year (one for 5k, one for 6.5k). I took a deposit of $500 with Paypal, which I refunded after deal completion.
Paypal is teh devil.

Paypal can't get you the money unless they have it in their account, I found out the hard way. Credit cards however are great, I got burned for $8500.00 for my kitchen cabinets 3 years ago (company took my money and went out of business 3 days before my order was supposed to be in.), and they just issued me a credit for that amount, no problem.

Rule 1: Don't tie a bank account with money in it to Paypal.

Rule 2: ALWAYS use a Credit Card when paying with Paypal. Paypal may not get your money back, but your CC company will.

Exactly. I have both tied to paypal. When I buy something from someone I know like on this forum for example, I'll pay through the bank. If they run with the money, I know you guys will give him more chit than any company going after them would do. For items on ebay or what not, I'll always use a credit card for extra protection.

I bought an item once on PayPal - it never came - buyer couldn't provide tracking info. Got my money back from PayPal, but it took a while. You have to wait x amount of days anyway to file, so that adds to the delay but I am pretty sure you'll get your money back.
