Am I crazy to pass up this SXr....

Ok, I have a 06 SXR... wet pipe, tauceti's,delta reed system, carbon ride plate, scat intake grate, foot holds,0 degrees,ODI's,blowsion rails and mat's and a few other parts....ski runs great...and is fairly quick. Now I have a buyer lined up for this ski so that I could possibly purchase a 03 SXR with the following mods ....skat track 12 vane set back pump / pump shoe & intake grate se drop nozzle umi pole bars turn plate jet trim pad & tray pads type 9 factory pipe powder coated green ada head with 185 comp with domes for race gas trued welded crank ported intake transfers 48 mm full spectrum carbs boysen intake reads rad fly wheel jsu built engine.....Would I be crazy to pass up this deal? or would this be one of those nightmares that you would be working on more than riding.....other possibility....wait till Nationals in Havasu and look for a ski in the pits....What do you think?:brap:

IMO, that's not a wise swap. A ski that's modded heavily (race gas), four years old, and has been worked over pretty well is just ticking the seconds away to potential total catastrophic failure. You have an 06, it runs well, keep it. If you want more power, then do some more modding. From what I have seen my bro-in-law had a race-gas only WB1), you won't get time out of it enough to really enjoy it....I think you'll be inheriting big problems.

I agree with Jetaddict. You know the maintenance history and how hard your 06 was ridden. The other is a mystery and may be hours away from needing a total rebuild. Go with what you know, and make your own ski the ski of your dreams.

The cost of the mods on that boat outway the "potential" melt down!! Your going to spend big $$ trying to catch a boat like that. Even if the motor goes to s***, it isnt going to cost any more $$ than buying mods for you other ski.
You could always freshen up the race motor over the winter. Problem solved!! Or you could port your cases and spend around 2-3K more on mods for your boat plus time, and time is $$. I would buy it.

Race boat's are the way to go, buy a used race ski from someone that is good and you will get a good ski, Racer's that are at the top of there game take Very good care of there ski's.
So if your buy in it from some novice then stay away from it, It's probably not well take in care of.
If you want a kick a$$ ski then do the trade.
Race gas cost alot of money!!!!

Buy it, rob the parts you want, then resell it. Or part it out... I bought an X2 once just for the FPP it had. I made way more than what I paid for it plus kept some parts to boot that more than paid for it. Then again, it isn't the ski parts selller's season right now. Can you sit on the ski until spring time? I would love that engine and pump in my ski.
