300/440/550 Alternator

Are these engines able to recharge the battery while riding like a car? I'm just curious if there is some kind charging system built into the magneto. If not, I guess i should be throwing it on the battery tender after every use.

if it is stock it will charge the battery.

some aftermarket ignitions like the MSD are "total loss" and don't charge. these have the charging parts deleted to lighten the flywheel and make the motor rev faster.

they charge them selfs unless you have a aftermarket ignition but its good to leave a battery tender on makes them last a LOT longer i rotate the tenders on all 8 of my skies

You should still charge before use.It will charge though as ur riding if u run stock ignition.

old thread but better than starting a new one..... if its not holding a charge on stock set up what do you think the issue is? the contact points on the stator? are they spring loaded like the brushes on the starters?
