Can you find traces of fuel in your bilge?

I used to have a problem when refueling my superjet on the beach after riding it to near empty. I had the tank vent hose with the check valve just hanging over the tank to keep water from getting it, and was not using the water separater. when I would refuel somehow the pressure in the tank would force fuel out of that vent line down into the bilge... it was really strange... just enough would pass through to create a siphon and pull more out. Once I figured out what it was, I change my set up and have been fine ever since.

hey frosty, how could there by a syphon in your vent tube line when the nipple doesnt go any lower than the top of the tank? i mean, where would it be getting the fuel from to supply a syphon? theres no pickup tube below the nipple.

as far as the gas smell, check all hoses for moisture. if you spray your engine down with wd40 or siliconse spary, dont for a couple of days. let it dry out then pressurize the tank and look for fuel. if its dark, dont use a match!

I know, that's what I thought too... but when I pulled my hood off on the beach as I refuled, there it was, gas flowing out of the vent line like no tomorrow.
