back story:
Had a Riva 760 head with 43 cc domes in it. I called Riva to get higher compression domes. They told me they dont make them any more that they sold ADA head instead. I said fine sent me one with 36cc domes. They asked me if I wanted girdled head or non girdled. I figured what the heck why not go for the girdles head. I had a few extra hours this week so i figured why not install the new head and studs......
Problem:
I installed the studs as far as they would go into the cases. I installed the head on top of the cylinders reusing the stock bolts (the riva ones from my old Riva head were too long). Well the studs were pushing the head towards the carbs so i couldnt get the bolts for the head in place. So I used a punch to line up the the holes so i could install the the bolts. no problem this worked perfectly. So i moved on to putting the nuts (supplied by Riva) and whashers on the studs and running them down in preping it to torque the studs and head bolts. The head studs bottom out the castle nuts before the tighten down on the head.
Questions:
What end of the studs go down into the cases? Shorter threads or the longer ones? What do i torque the studs to? What do i torqe the head bolts to? Is there suppose to be a spacer between the head and the cases on the studs? Has anyone esle been here done this or am I just an idiot?
Why did I F%ck with this ski?????
