Super Jet A question for the superjet guys

I recently picked up a superjet that is in more of a classic freeride style setup right now, and I want to add tubbies. Unfortunately it has the blowsion side exhaust installed on it where the tubbies would go. I was wondering if I could just make a metal plate the same shape as the whole and seal it up and put the tubbies over it. I personally have more experience working with metal then fiberglass. I guess I am more asking if this would work rather than is it the best idea.

I appeciate everyones input and am excited to share my build once finished!

Yes it would work. If you just sand the hole smooth on the outside and tape it off, then you could fill it from the inside with thickened epoxy and 1 layer of glass. That would be a much better repair in my opinion. But I guess a metal plate would work if you wanted to be able to change it back.

Just remove the side exhaust and the "T" and route it like it came originally!!! I had side exhaust, it was great for competing in freestyle doing hood tricks, but loud as crap, last few months I had my SJ I had bypassed it!!!!!!!

Wouldn't water inflow if I just did that? Or should I just cap the part behind the waterbox? Can tubbies just fit over the exhaust without removing it?

obviously, you have to cap the hole in the hull. I would not cap the "T", remove it and install a hose from the exhaust outlet to the rear thru hull outlet.

I would tape a piece of plastic film to the outside and find something to use as a form, then pour epoxy and glass from the inside. This saves a lot of body work. Use the stock rear exhaust or make it a side exhaust in front of the bulkhead. Side exhaust is better for tail stands if thats your thing.
