A lot more fun - with a ski

My first LSFR last spring was fun, and I bought my ski. However, the water was such a mess, I was afraid to make it my very first time to ride a standup.

Last fall, had I done less drinking and more wrenching, I would have actually ridden.

Finally, this weekend I was able to play in the surf, and what spectacular CB surf it was, for the first time. The SJ was fun on the lake, but the surf made it truely addicting.

Thanks to Glen, Neil and Bill for helping me get that b-pipe in and the carb adjusted. Also, thanks to Jeff for the loaner battery tray.

WHEN IS THE NEXT LSFR????!!!!

When did you come, Peter?

Friday I was trying to introduce myself to everyone. I don't remember seeing you there Friday. Maybe you slipped in while I was riding...

Saturday was too nuts for me to introduce myself to everyone. I didn't know who was in our group, and I didn't wanna feel the fool for introducing myself multiple times to the same person.

I didn't make it until 8 am Saturday, and then, other than pancakes and bacon, was wrenching until noonish. I actually brought my ski down Thursday night and worked on it for about 2 hours, but had to work on Friday. I left Sunday morning at 7 am after the buggle call.

Sorry I missed you. If there is a Lake Travis ride this year, hopefully I'll meet you then; otherwise, there's always Fall LSFR.

It'd have to be fall LSFR. That'd be the only other freeride I'd be going to.

U musta been wrenching over with Deepsea and Skinnyman. I was the funny looking guy on an old Seadoo with a type 1 life vest on for most of the day.

well, see - I was talking to another person and we decided we weren't going to post anything and see how long it took for someone to notice.

but you kinda spoiled the fun by having the unmitigated gall to out yourself.

I heard we looked pretty funny trying to move that damn blaster.

I like those lifevests. I'd rather be wearing 1 of those if I was to get knocked out then a type 2. Probably be wearing 1 the first time I ride my 550 in the surf.

Don't care if I look funny, as long as I'm alive.

the only thing about those that I am not sure about is if they are USCG approved for use on a PWC.

but - you are correct, they provide head up flotation for when you knock yourself out.

Crap!

Didn't think of that.

The USCG says that the person on the PWC needs to have 'a USCG approved vest' on. We're checking to see if it's USCG approved. I think so.

I just looked it up - that is actually a Type II vest. A Type I is similar, but used mainly for offshore operations (working, not recreational) where a longer recovery time might be expected.

I couldn't find anything in our boating regs that say you can't wear it - only that a USCG approved vest is required for the operator and any passengers of a PWC.

I haven't looked yet to see if the Type II is approved (or not) for use on a PWC.

A regular vest would certainly be more comfortable than the Type II.

I wouldn't worry about it.

but we're still gonna razz you about it. :poke:

According to our tag attached to the vest, it is USCG approved. Kim just checked.

I expect to get crap about it this time, and the next time I wear it.

Moondance

Just plain me....
Not to bust any balls, but thinking you are safer in the orange vest as opposed to a normal ski type vest is a false sense of security. I went to college with a guy who was wearing that same type vest when the boat he was in started capsizing off the coast of NC. He got boinked in the head unconscious. His buddy pulled him onto a cooler in order to help someone else. When he came back, John had slipped out of it & was never found.

Sorry for the threadjack - I'm entitled..I have the shirt to prove it.

That's the only down side to it. But the same can be said for any vest that's not properly fitted.

I thought those vests, when properly tightened, don't ever fall off. I know our standard check when putting on a vest is to try to pull it off the person over their head without unbuckling.

My dad modded 1 of those so that it also had a strap that went between the legs. You'd never fall outta that.
