300/440/550 a few questions about my 440

Well I had my 84 Js440 out for 10 day while i was at my cabin

and its so hard to start when its cold the battery just dies before it even starts to try and crank i dont get it but when it gets running it will start up with no problems

should i get a primer kit ???? if thats even what will fix it

and what is a waterbox ???? i have a westcoast one and im not to sure what it really does

and i have a 300 that i killed a couple yrs ago how hard is it to put the 550 motor in it

and doing tricks on my 440 I could really do anything i was getting fairly high of my dads boat wake but i couldnt submerge it or do any spins or anything i dont kno what im doing wrong

and if i upgrade what should i get next and if i sell mine how much should i ask for it

westcoast waterbox
westcoast intake grate
its pretty quick i guess
it also has a custom gas cap takes a key



and if i keep it would it be smart to put foot holds on it and renforce the front end with more glass

and can i get a all aluminum handle bar like the whole neck piece

if seen superjet with them

As you aproach the wake you dip down into the dip of the wave then punch it as your in the curl then when the nose gets in the air kick up your heels, push down on the bars and hop up in the air all in one motion, you'll sub it.


I sub my neighbors 440 and it's very slow and no footholds. You can do it.

550 engine? IIRC the 550 uses a different pump. So you need that, the complete engine, (exhaust, intake, etc.) and the electronics stuff.

Basically everything but the Hull and the Pole accessories.

440 pump? he's converting from a 300, not a 440.

He definitley needs the correct ignition stuff becuase a 300 is a single cylinder.

Yes get a primer kit as soon as possible.
The waterbox is same thing as a muffler, basically.
The 300 is the same hull, but not sure if the 300 driveshaft will line up properly with the 550 engine. If the hull is good, buy a junk 550 and swap over into the good hull.
Sounds like your 440 is set up decent. I would not do a thing, except get a few pieces of mat material and glue them to the side to act as footholds. That is the cheapest way to do it.
Keep riding and you'll start getting your subs down.... and other tricks.
That hull still challenges me and I am going to ride until I am physically unable.
