Difficult to say but with your description it could be oil pump. Stalls out when hot but starts ok when cold. I can only assume that mine had an air pocket or maybe pump failed. Before I ran premix I had my motor overheat. I noticed after a long pull it would stall and strange engine noise. Does it crank over hard when you go to start it after it stalls. I made it back to shore and dumped in 32-1 premix and it ran great for remaining two days I had it on the water. Vacationing. Rebuilt motor and threw pump in trash can. 50-1 super M

It seems like everything sounds normal after it happens (starter, etc) the engine just doesn't catch and restart. But I don't think it's the oil pump because I seem to be consuming oil just fine and top it off when I go out.

Electrical parts aren't expensive if you go used.. Working cdi's aren't hard to find for 50$ish,and oem coils for that price as well. Not saying that's Your problem, I'm just saying it's not worth buying new.

Yeah I've seen used and even "new" parts on eBay for much less that dealership new. I'm always afraid of buying that used working part, only to have it fail the second I install it, lol.

The weather hasn't been great to get out and trouble shoot yet. Hopefully tomorrow.

A friend of mine suggested today that maybe there is an air leak from the intake after the carb. I'm going to investigate this too.

Here are some spark plug pics for the hell of it. Maybe only 40min on them:

Not eBay. People on the forums here can hook you up with reliable parts. There's a lot of trustworthy sellers.

Yeah like I said man, jet maniac is the guy to buy from.

Long term the carbs will be fine with premix. All of my boats are premix.

The only way to tell anything from plugs is to do a WOT pull and yank the lanyard. Hold it WOT until the boat stops then swim or tow it in. Otherwise you're not reading reliable data.

What you're describing sounds to me like a little piece of junk getting in the jet and getting stuck. Then while you licorice with it it's coming loose and staring (sometimes). I had a blaster do this a couple years ago.

Alright, went out today (finally) and tested. I think the issue is solved *knock on wood*

It was suggested to me that my thermo switch might be the problem as well, so I simply removed it from the engine and zip tied it off elsewhere. After a few runs it didn't stall out. Then I went out on the lake which had some nice 4'+ swells and kicked it around. Ran great, although it still needs some throttle pulls to get started when hot. Engine didn't seem to stumble or act at all as if it were overheating.

I had a friend ride it today and he said it seems a bit low on power low end, but when I grab the throttle it just takes off so maybe he's just being picky.

Compression is also 130 cold, throttle open.

Compression sucks.

The thermo switch is the same reason you run premix.

Needs a pipe

Compression sucks? I thought it was pretty good. The service manual says 134 hot:

So running premix will make the engine run colder?

If I get a pipe, I have to re-jet correct? I'm not going to mod it this summer, maybe over winter.

Most stock engines are around 150 in my experience.

No, but I wouldn't trust it just like I don't trust the heat sensor.

Yes you have to rejet. A Riva red or a factory will both need a 95g spring, 2.3 n/s, 145 main and a 120 pilot. Then screw adjustments. Those single 44s are easy.

There is also a race in Watkins next month.

You sure about the 2.3? I thought it was a 1.5..?

Looks like my first mod might be a waterbox. It's not cracked all the way yet, maybe I can fill this with something?
