'93 XP pump problems

I have a '93 XP with that I bought cheap. The engine runs great after installing 2 rebuilt carbs. Problem is, the engine revs out in the water but I get very little thrust. At half throttle it seems to surge ( grab and then slip) but it never planes out. Any more throttle and it revs quick without taking off. I have verified that the drive shaft and coupling is not stripped and by holding the impeller and twisting the drive shaft this also seems ok. Anybody have any suggestions??

damaged wear ring, leaking seal between pump and hull, leaking seal at the through hull fitting (Be sure to grease that by the way). OR it still could be stripped splines (there are splines on both ends of the drive shaft.) When I stripped a prop it grabbed enough that it was hard to tell by turing it by hand.

yes, it sounds like you may have top take it apart and inspect everything. it could even be a rock, or stick stuck in there causing cavatation.

if you need any parts, i should have them here. send me an email. zig

wear ring

sound like you need a wear ring, look in there with a flashlight and look at the clearance between the impeller and the wear ring ,if it is more than say a thin dime would fit in then your wear ring is toast

Check your motor mounts too, they go bad a lot in those older sea doo's. If they broke your motor could move around making the driveshaft rub against the thru hull fitting wearing that out and coud make it jolt too. If they're loose they could mess up the splines on the drive shaft too.

In addition, check motor alignment also. those older straight SeaDoo's (580, 650, 720) where somewhat known to bend the motor bed plates out of whack if jumped a lot...... causing strip'ge of the PTO/driveshaft splines.
