SX/SXi/SXi Pro 93 650 SX pump OPTIONS

I have a 650sx I bought and rebuilt this summer, came with bolt ons, and I had the jugs bored .5 over.....so it has pipe, intake, westcoast head, 44mm carbs. 155 compression..... The pump how ever was locked up, so I twisted and sanded the inside of the housing around the edges of the prop until it would spin freely(somewhat). It seemed like prop was bent or......rusted.

I ran it for 2 months....sounded like crap, sounds like I have a desel engine for a prop. short story I need a new one. It sat for 2 months and when I tried to take it out Newyears eve, pump was practicaly locked up again. This has to be a fairly common problem, I don't think its the bearings, bent prop bent shaft, crooked houseing, plan ole rust???

What are my options.....Im seeing $150 online for stock, ok condition.

What ski's can I swap a pump from and use??
What props/pumps are going to be upgrades vs down grades??
If the common problem is prop, should I just replace the prop?

This ski is for fun only....currently $6-700 dollars in it, not looking to spend alot. Would like to get running again and sell. I need something bigger, 750-800 super jet/wake jumper would be nice!

Any 650 pump will fit and they are cheaper than 750 pumps. You should be able to find a bare housing for $50-$100. A complete pump with an SS prop is usually a better deal for $150 since you can sell the prop in the summer for $50-$80.

The pump liner warped and is no longer a perfect circle. You could buy a new pump for $600. You could buy a used pump and have the same problems.

I sent my pump as a core to Scott at Exactal Tool. His number was 908-561-1177. For $300, he replaced the pump liner, installed new bearings and reassembled the pump including reinstall of the prop and short shaft, and he paid returned shipping. I occasionally ride salt and have had no issues since he rebuilt it about 4-5 years ago. I was pleased and would obviously recommend him. Also polite on the phone.

Be sure to pack the box extra well. UPS mangled the box and broke an ear off my pump shoe. I had to send a second core. Oh, and he also took a worn out 750 pump with a similar problem that I didn't need as credit on the job.

So this one(pictured below) from a ss 96 750.....this one will be a direct bolt on? Not going to say the price....but its a steal. This will be a big upgrade from stock right.... I think Im doing 32-35mph...maybe get another 3mph out of this??

Kevbo...this is the 750 pump your speaking of as a better deal. The housing looks like it will fit....but the black ring around the front isn't on my stock one....so Im curious to know if it will fit. If I use this one will I be swaping my prop into this one...or run it like is?

You will not improve over stock. The 650 and 750 pumps are both 140mm. The advantage to the 750 pump is you can use 750sx and SXR props w/o having them modified to bolt on correctly. You can also remove the pump w/o having to resilicone the pump shoe. The problem is that you can't use the 750 pump shoe on the 650 hull. You have to modify the 750 pump shoe or make one.

I found a 750SS for my buddy and gave him a X2. The 750 pump was good, and I have several bad 650 pumps. We cut the pump shoe off a 650 pump. The 750 pump doesn't have a place to bolt on the intake grate and the bolt in the 650 pump shoe is in the way of the pump. Ryan was leaving the intake grate bolt hole and grinding into the pump to accomidate the bolt hole. He hasn't completed the ski but said it was looking ok. I can't tell you if it will work yet.

Thanks.....So what your saying....is the housing..."shoe" off the ss 750 will not bolt directly to the hull of a 650sx. Thanks for your help....and isn't worth makeing it work because 750 and 650 are the same size(won't be an upgrade)
