88 Yamaha wr500

Just curious if anyone can help me find information on the motor in the 88 Yamaha WR500. Did they make a 2 stroke and a 4 stroke motor?

No, it's a two cylinder 2-stroke.

Nice. I have a buddy that just bought one. I haven't seen it yet but he thinks it's a 4-stroke. It sounds like he doesn't know as much as he says he does.

Any suggestions on where to find more information on these ski's?

If he thinks it's a 4-stroke then good luck with that......
Tell him he needs the change the oil and adjust the valve clearance before he rides it, LOL.

Actually, the WR500 motors was taken from a Yamaha outboard basically........... No power......... But they will run forever!!!!!!!!!!!

Ya, a outboard layed horizontally, add new intake and carb, and a flywheel cover. The flywheel is so huge on that thing(since it was a outboard engine).
