300/440/550 88 550 runs badly after tipping to the right and turning off.

I just bought the ski. 650 bucks, with an extra hull and some stuff thats still in the extra hull. Thing runs great which is amazing because i have had these before with alot of problems and very little mechanical skill at the time. Only issue im really having is when i tip and fall to the right the ski will start back up but will not idle and will not rev, i just hold it at full throttle and it limps back to my dock. when i pull it out and start it its fine. put it back in and its good till i tip again. the ski has a lanyard i was useing so it shuts off probably right before it dunks in the water. it hasnt gone completely upside down so i didnt need to flip it the correct way right? or maybe i should have. i could run with out the lanyard and i think it would be fine but in the surf i dont think thats a good idea. im not sure whats wrong with it, i was thinking maybe something with the water box filling up but im not sure. any insite? also is there a stock bildge on these, or do i need to really look into gettin a aftermarket set up? thanks. heres a pic of it since i only posted a few times in the freestyle/surf section.

Mine was shutting off after flipping to the right. It ended up being a fuel pick up. Someone cut the pick ups off the tank and put a fuel line in the tank that was long. It wrapped to the left side of the tank so when i tipped right the motor ran out of fuel.

You don't have a compression or spark problem. Try a clear fuel line so you can at least see if it's getting fuel.

my guess would be its taking a gulp of water and you just need to get it cleaned outta there and then it runs again. I would try and look for a new flame arrestor, and switch out that velocity stack style unit. The stock bilge works ok if its hooked up right and you nozzle is not bored out, but it doesn't hurt to have a good bilge pump in these skis

is there something wrong with the velocity stack and that flame arrestor? looks like someone painted it silver so i was thinking about going back to stock if i can find it. do you think it sucked in water from there? does the bildge on these work like a waverunner, once on plane makes some sort of vacuum that pulls the water out? where is the stock bildge. i gotta get an old manual i have laying around somewhere and look this stuff up. thanks for the responses thought.

the stock bilge works that way, but I used to have the same problem with my 550, the main problem was the start/stop switch was messed up and when the wires would get wet, it would die and not start back up. The next was the carb pop off was too low, letting to much fuel in the carb, and stalled it out.

I would definitely say it's a carb issue. Does it run good when it runs? No bogging at all? Might need a new needle and seat. The best solution would be to put a sbn44 on it. Best mod for the piston port 550's.

It runs awesome until its tipped, so i was figureing the carb was probably ok. i dont know if turning it on its side could effect the carb unless its sucking air from the tank somehow? But if it was that i would think i could get it going in the water again, but all i can do is sputter back to the dock. i was figuring it was a water issue. im not sure how the water box really works but i have an extra one in the spare hull i have, maybe ill switch it out. hate being so far from my ski during the work week or i would of had this figured out by now..

waterbox won't help. Don't waste time on that. I think the needle and seat are dribbling fuel. Even when I get a little water down my carb, It runs. It runs really crappy for a few minutes the clears out.

So i was messing with it yesterday, riding and it would die when i tip it and i could limp back. i found one spark plug boot for the rear cylinder was broken, the little metal peice that clips to the spark plug. so i switched that out and went out again seemed to be running fine then the engine siezed. i pulled the head and cylinders and the piston ring for the front cylinder was stuck in the groove and scraping the bore. also the connecting rod bearing is really hard to turn, sort of seized up. so i guess im rebuilding this engine. 650 dollar ski is know gonna be a 1500 dollar ski. i dont know if its worth it to just find a complete motor or just buy the upper and lower rebuilding kits. we will see. anyone got a motor for sale?

are you running at high speed and then it tips to the right? Cause your carb might just be loaded with fuel and then you gotta burn it off before it's responsive

it did it high or low speed. as long as it tipped. im gonna rebuild the lower and top end, since it idles and ran so well i dont know if i should mess with the carb. but im worried that maybe the engine gave out because of this other issue i was having. it had oe pistons and a stock bore so maybe it was just that engines time. at least its easy to work on. thanks for the replys.
