have a 86 kawi 650. love my ski (when it runs right). lately when i go to start it all i hear is a click comin from my ignition box. it comes and goes. sometimes if fires right up, and other times its just clicks. its not the battery. its fully charged. its not my connections. they are clean. what the hell is going on ???

sounds like a bad wire.
when the starter does work, does it sound healthy? or "sluggish.... like a wet sponge"?

my old 650 used to do that..had the starter rebuilt...all was good

You can test the starter by jumping it off the battery. Do this by leaving the negitive cable hooked to the battery. Hook a positive cable to the battery and hang it out of the ski. Hook a positive cable to the starter and hang that out of the ski. Tap the two positive wires together and see how the starter reacts. You use the 2 positive cable method because it will cause a spark, and you don't want that spark over the battery (you can blow it up) or near your gas tank.
Replace your battery cables if you can't say they are good. That is a cheap fix.
Last thing would be the starter cylindoid.
With it working sometimes and not others. I would guess your cables are going bad.
