First of all, try flipping the waterbox around.

Looks like the 530A may be signifying that it is a 550 (532CC). But hard to tell...... been a long time since I fooled with 550's.

hull/bearing support

JS440 ENGINE BAY.jpg

Also does anyone know who would have made a hull/bearing support like this? It was in the hull when i got the ski. didnt know if it was an home made jobby or a actually aftermarket set up.

Gotcha lol, yea i was just curious had an issue with new motor mounts stipping out under torque.
well what were you trying to torque them @? Not being funny, but do you have a repair manual? I can try to find the link to the one i downloaded or have usendit host the manual for 10 days ( i'd need to use a different email addy since i burned up my free hosting with them). OR i can try to .zip the 73-91 manual i have and send it to you if you need one?

You have a 440 or 550 bottom end. I can't tell without seeing the crank. It doesn't really matter. You definitely have a 550 top end. The actual cc for the 550s is 530cc. You also have an aftermarket head. Compression should be around 175-180 with it. I would do a compression test before doing much anything of else. I've never seen a bulkhead brace like that. The other driveshaft support base you have in there is needed to run a 440 pump with larger motors.

the plate on the bulkhead is a bulkhead repair kit. mariner made most of them i seen but i am sure about everyone made them back in the day.

my guess is your hull is cracked or it would not be there.

you are missing one part of it. there should be a plate that covers the bulkhead and ties the two together.

the 440 and 550 crank and bottom end are the same after 83. the pre 83 440 did have a pressed coupler and a different rear seal but is otherwise the same as the later ones.

so the only real difference is the bore size. since you got the intake off it is real easy to tell which one you got just look in there at the pistons or take a rough mesurment.

a bulkhead repair kit huh? never heard of such a thing lol, can u get a pic of what im missing? cause what you see (attached to the bulkhead an attached to the bottom of the bilge) is all i got , just curious to know.

Is this hull worth messing with since you say the hull is cracked. i dont see anywhere that the hull looks damaged or cracked significantly unless it under that bulkhead support....

Here's a picture of the piece your missing. I would guess the hull is cracked behind the metal plate. Take it off if you can and check.

no t-bone that is not the missing plate. that is a drive line support.

there are 4 threaded holes in the plate that is screwed to the "fire wall". the plate i am talking about covers the white piece in the middle "the drive shaft bulkhead" and is bolted to those 4 holes in the fire wall plate. then when you bolt the drive shaft in the bulk head and fire wall plate are tied together.

the hull is fine you just need to be sure that you have all this stuff put back right. also you need a drive line support too. the metal part bolted to the floor of your engine compartment is one part of the drive line support but you should have another part that looks kinda like the one in t-bones pic above.

also these parts probably came out with the drive line so check you drive hub for them.

Oh I thought you were talking about the missing driveline brace piece. I haven't ever seen a bulkhead brace like that, so I didn't even know a piece was missing.

There are no extra pieces. t-bones pic... yea dont have those parts. never came out of the ski. just the brace against the "firewall" and the mount for the driveshaft bearing support that is mounted to the bottom

Update on the project...

* Engine installed/ alignment set, and i found a westcoast water box to fit with the full westcoast pipe.
* full system completely plumed with a primer kit
* JS550 ebox with rev-limit function capped off
* BN44 carb set up with K&N filter. (and yes BN carb because thats all i have at this time)

*MORE IMPORTANTLY - I had her running finally after a year lol :). Only on a hose at this point but she seem very ready for water and some test and tuning.

WISH ME LUCK

Ok another update on the StoopidSki:

Round 1= TKO epic failure.

Ski ran for a grand total of 10mins in the water. 9mins and 30 seconds putting out past the no wake zone.
Got to the point that i could hammer down and she ran like a raped ape for another 30sec. at 3/4 to WOT an then she died and would not restart. Towed it back to the marina.... checked spark (GOOD) , changed plugs (old ones looked very dry). It would seem to me at this point not getting any fuel. i have not had the chance to fully diag. the issue but the BN44 carb was rebuilt prior to running the ski.

Any help would be appericated

Ok final diagnosis:

No fuel to carb. because cyl#1 (front cylinder, where fuel pump gets its pulse pressure from) wiped out. 60psi in relation to the 145 it had been weeks prior. Tore down the motor... jug is scorn, pistons and rings FUBAR, and metal shaving in the bottom end. Best i can tell she died cause of age. Rings where catching on the port openings.

Time for a complete rebuild.

Thanks for everyones help
looks ive got a winter project ahead of me lol
