SXR 800 SXR blows up!

Don't get too excited, It was only minor damage: My son pulled our SXR off the trailer, hit the starter and boom! Gas fumes ignited by a spark from loose battery connection exploded (sounded like a shotgun going off), knocked the hood and handle pole up and blew the hood lock off. Thankfully no one was hurt and I just have to replace the hood lock. Also thankful that it wasn't my SJ that blew up, I never ride the Kawi

This is why I put primers under the hood. Makes you have to open the hood. And if a ski is setup right it only needs a primer off a cold start.

Not a bad idea although I've had gas fumes from a 550 ignite with the hood off the ski. Bilge quit working, pulled to ramp, popped hood off and reached down to battery to check for loose wires and it sparked igniting fumes. Just lost a little arm hair that time, no boom! I usually pull the hoods off the skis before backing in the water, just got distracted that day and had backed them down the ramp leaving them on the trailer while planing on burping them before riding. My son got to them before I did thinking they were good to go. It's the spark that will get you when combined with gas fumes, hood on or off.
