760 build for the Blaster

Few pics of my build, I just set the crank in tonight. I hope to have it done by Sat. If anyone sees anything wrong let me know.
Oh yea I sandblasted the cylinder and cases for new paint. Went over them with a dremmel to remove cast lines and sharp edges. Then I blasted them again to roughen it up for paint. Has anyone ever done this??

looks bueno-- dont know what your doing with the paint, but i did have my first b1 engine rattle apart due to paint under bolts rubbing off causing bolts to loosen-- i did try to get toooo blingy with a lot of metal flake-- probably never happen to anyone else, but doesnt hurt to try and prevent someone elses possible future pain

Im going to build it, tape off all gasket surfaces and take it to be painted by someone that knows how to paint. NO rattle can for this motor.
THen im sure Ill phuck the motor up and it will be money down the drain.

Thats what happened to me, can you say AIR LEAK. cost me a fortune but lookek sweet while it lasted.

You two are saying you painted the parts before assembly and the bolts loosened up because of the paint under the bolt heads??

Well I just sand-blasted then rattle-canned my B1 cases this winter, so I guess I should be looking for them to come apart soon... great

but, really, wouldn't the painted alum have to oxidize a good bit under the paint for that to happen?

i taped off all the sealing surfaces, but the paint i used was so thick that it crumbled under the bolt heads and caused the bolts to loosen-- boat started running like ass, i grabbed the cylinder and you could pick it up off the engine and the cases came apart-- didnt hurt anything-- just had to teardown, clean, and reassemble-- in my case i think it was the very heavy metal flake--- thats what i get for trying to be all fancy

You got it, think i got carried away with the gun. You should be ok with a thin coat as it hasn't happened again since.

Thanks for the info. Ill prime under the bolt heads, put em all in then paint over them.

More pictures. I had to CUT the cylinder some so the girdle bolts would clear. I guess because this motor came out of a couch the 62T had a different casting for exhaust mounts.
Im glad I checked this before I painted it and not after!!

Engine stand

Today I got to thinking and wondering how my painter was going to be able to paint my motor other than the two position way I had to to prime it.
I came up with a solution. I made a motor painting stand.
its held by the crank ends by aluminum tubing. I wrapped the crank ends up with thap and beveled the ID corners of the tubing.
I had to make a lock to keep the engine up right (heavy side up).
I know its not fancy but I made it out of scrap I had in my shop.
It does work good though.

Motor is painted

Brought it home from the paint shop today. I think from now on I will rattle can my own motors, unless I can find someone to paint for me on a barter basis or something of that nature. None the less its painted and its going to cure for a good week untill Im ready to install it.

The paint color looks even better in person. Next ski I paint will be that color.

Now all I have to do is send strip the pipe and send it out to be aluminized powder coated. I checked the head pipe on my b-pipe, all the set screws turn free. :Banane09:

Few more pics. I had to make my own Primer fittings for one carb. I thought I had a dual carb primer kit but it was only for one, so I made the other.
Carbs are a lil rough on the outside but clean on the inside. I plan on blasting them and powdercoating them in the future.

Just a few more pics from work done over the weekend.
My anode broke so I had to make another one out of some material I have at the shop.

Motor ready for the exhaust manifold.

Manifold in place.

45 Degree barb fittings I used for the dual cooling.

Drilling hull for the new bulkhead fitting for dual cooling. I wanted to keep the stock bilge setup.

View from inside after bulkhead fitting is in place.

Motor is now in the hull.
