750SX single carb, fuel or ignition problem help please

1992 750sx with a single carb

History: Ski ran great with little to no fuss nearly every weekend for 2 months. Then one day not long after a sub turn the ski bogged down and would die if the throttle was pressed all the way down. I thought it was out of gas, so I switched to reserve but the problem remained. I then thought that the electronics may have gotten wet, so i rode it to the shore and popped the hull open. Everything looked in order, but it was getting kindof low on fuel. I refueled it switched back to on and the problem dissapeared.

This trend continued, as the tank got below half it seemed to start bogging.

The problem: Today I rode and everythign was normal, until it begain bogging again. I checked the fuel levels and as you guessed it, below half a tank. Refueled and took it for a spin, problem remained.

Tested the check valve for normal opperation, everything seems fine.

Checked fuel cap gasket, again everything seems fine.

Checked the gas pick ups in the tank, the pick ups and the lines seem fine. But I did notice no gasket where the pickups bolt to the tank. I put some RTV around it to seal that. Problem still exists.

Any ideas???

have you drained the tank and lines and started with all fresh gas since the problem started? sounds a lot like water in the fuel and you could still be cycling some from the long sub earlier. especially since there was no gasket. and ive never seen much rtv hold up well around gas. good luck bro!

No I have not drained the tank, I didnt feel water was in the tank. It was not a long surb, just a turn sub. I suppose I can drain the tank and start fresh, afterall that could either solve the problem or eliminate one more part of the equation.

well man we sunk a ski once and went over everything, but it still ran like you described and it was just a little water in the tank that caused it. so its a cheap place to start.
