Grrrrrrrrr, I just completed a ton of hull work on this thing adding custom foot wells and stuff, as well as spent hours in the garage getting every little issue I have let go for the past few seasons all taken care of, and now the stupid thing won't start/run.... I fired it up earlier today, and let it idle for just a second then shut it off as I wasn't actually ready to run it on the water hose, just wanted to make sure it still ran. Then tonight after I finally got everything all buttoned up I tried to fire it up but it just backfires and pops but won't even attempt to run. It's like the timing is all out of whack all of a sudden or something. I took the front cover off and the flywheel seems nice and tight (thought it may have been a sheared key).

Anyone got any ideas?:censored:

a bad cdi on a x2 will do that. i dont know if that can happen with the 750 elec.
when we built x2addicts it ran fine the first night of having juice to it. the next morning did what you described and sheared the key. swapped the cdi and it ran fine again. i think shawn had the same problem in daytona this year to. must be a kawi thing.

750 problems

If it's an early 750 and you added a timing advance plate your timing can be screwed as the trigger will not be in the correct location. The stators can go bad (even while sitting on the bench)...and this is usually the problem..

Well, I borrowed a flywheel puller tool from the local Kawi shop and it is not a sheared key. Checked the reeds and they are perfect. So the stator can go bad and cause this problem? There is definitely fuel getting to the motor without a doubt, and there is spark to both plugs, just BANG! at all the wrong times. It's always out the exaust too never a carb backfire.

So by stator, you mean just the part in the flywheel cover, or is there anything in the electrical box that can contribute to this problem?

:banghead:

If it is a stator issue, does anyone know what years will work? Or what can be retro-fitted?

Thanks,

Edit.. Never mind, I looked on Kawi's online parts diagram and answered the question myself, plus correct me if I am wrong, but the stator is basically just the generator creating the electrical energy, along with the timing pick up of course, but the CDI box actually transmits the spark to the plugs at the correct time. So since I have spark at both plugs and plenty of juice, it must be the CDI as X2rags mentioned? Hopefully thats it as I just ordered the MSD ignition.

For anyone in the future, I inquired about this thread. He did fix it with the MSD.

I too had a problem exactly like this, and changed out my CDI and fixed it.

Just looking to help anyone else with the same problem.
