SX/SXi/SXi Pro 750SX Hood Mod

Not that I want to modify my hood, but it's a 93 750SX that the dual carbs were installed. If you ever did this mod, you know that the rear intake tube on the hood doesn't fit anymore. So the previous owner cut it out. Sometimes when im riding I feel like I injest water. Yesterday I was on the beach I think the waves hit it and drop some water inside after sitting for 10 min, but it looked like a little water on the spark plug and I had a real difficult time starting it. This has happened before after turning some 180's in the marsh, it gets to be a real hard start even with the primer.

Question is, has anybody else had this problem before? I think I should close up the one hole and drill open a 3" hole on the other side by the waterbox. Thanks in advance.

what flame arrestors are you running? which carbs are you running? stock FA on those wouldn't have a problem, aftermarket ones would. Either way you should plug that hole and install another tube farther forward, the tube must extend above the waterline when the ski is upside down in the water otherwise any hole below the inverted waterline is one that will allow water in.

A well sealed hood and long enough breather tubes will keep most of the water out when upside down.

it's dual keihin 40's with stock flame arrestors. i never was able to flip this ski completely over. usually when i fall off the pole is fully extended and it lays on its side.

I'm having crazy water intake problems too. I put on a new hood seal, stuck on a thin layer of foam around bottom of the hood, glassed in the upper and front intakes, opened both rear intakes and still pull in tons of water. I tried the stock airbox but can't get enough air in to run good. Gotta stick with the am filters

Have been having all kinds of issues with sucking in water with my sx as well. I gutted the insides of my hood and hogged out the other rear vent while glassing over the front. Runs well unless you sub or firehose it just bogs and dies. Now I have plugged up the top holes as well and ran tubes from the rear vents down to the bottom of the ski, hoping this will doctor it up so that I can finally firehose

Same as above, I was looking at mine last night and found that the hood isnt sealing tight around the front section. I will double up on the faom to try to tighten it up. I also forgot that when I closed off the front and top intakes I left the breather open on the front. I think water is being taken in the rear intakes and passing up to the front opening and dripping onto the carbs. I closed it off last night and will try that this weekend.

If you gutted your hood you will probably need to glass in the bottom side to stop the water from leaking in anywhere accept the tubes, also make sure the tubes go all the way to the bottom of the ski
