That would make sense. I'm sure that I have some top end damage since my compression is only 135. I was reading my build thread and when I acquired the engine I had 135 psi in each cylinder and last night I was at 110.

I wonder what was causing the detonation? Any suggestions?

I was running BR8ES plugs
Compression was 135
Stock 650 electronics
93 Octane mixed 40:1

Any ideas? I am going to pull the head off on Friday afternoon, hopefully I'll be able to get some pics and post them then.

First off, try another guage, use a bigger battery, and make sure the carb is wide open when cranking. I would be more inclined to tell you the coil may be bad, or the plug wires need cutting back. I have had 2 coils do the same thing, my 3rd one ran all weekend without a hitch. New B7ES plugs wouldn't hurt either.

I tested again tonight and found 110 in the rear cylinder and 120 in the front. I'm going to test again friday w/ a fresh battery and then open up the e-box to see if there is any salt or water in there.

After that down to the river and try to duplicate the symptoms again.
