SX/SXi/SXi Pro 750 sx start problem

92 750 sx all stock just got it. Are there any tricks to getting it to start, started fine a few weeks ago, then gradually has been getting harder and harder to start, went to start today, then nothing.

what ive noticed: starter is working. checked spark ok. If i clean spark plugs with carb cleaner and let them dry, it will start then die immediately than thats it, so makes me think its flooding.

I do hear a hollow sucking sound when trying to start, coming from carb.

gas and oil are filled and fresh.

Any ideas?

Are you choking it to start? Have you tried putting mixed gas in the carb to start it or keep it running. My sx won't start with out gas or starting fluid if it has set for more than a couple days. I'm putting a inline bulb primer on mine soon.

Kind of sounds like a fuel pump, just went through this on a buddys SUPERJET. It would run for a while and just die. Then would just run for a couple of seconds and then no fire. Swapped it out to a remote fuel pump I had and it ran just fine. Thats where I would start. Try putting fuel directly in your carb if it runs then start tracing it back.

This is reassuring I'm glad I'm not the only one with a hard starting 750. Make sure you either choke or prime it, mine won't start without it.

Ya i been choking it. (the jetski i mean) lol

if i spray a little carb cleaner in there it will fire, then die, checked fuel filters and they are clean.

Where is the fuel pump?

Has anyone had better cold starting with the bulb primer.

Fuel pump is build in carb, and primer allways a good idea

It does sound like a fuel problem. After cranking (without starting fluid or adding fuel in by hand) how wet are your plugs?

Got it running and warm at the house, then took it to boat ramp. No go. pulled out of water and it started, put it in water let it run for a minute then it died. This took place two more times until battery died.

Went back to house and started charging battery.

Went and got some starting fluid, the stuff with lubricant, and some fuel stabilizer, i was thinking bad gas or water in gas.

With the starting fluid it fires up immediately, tomorrow we will see if the fuel stabilizer helps.

Sounds like the carbs or carb need to be completly taking apart and blowed out and cleaned, there is a screen filter in each carb that I bet is jelled up or full of crap and is barely letting a little bit of fuel siphon through when it sits and than immediately runs dry as soon as you fire it up.

Got it running. Ran good and started fine. I think there was a little water in the gas tank, Im going to take off carbs this weekend and clean.

So my first time out went well except that the ski was dolphining bad, i noticed a little cavitation here and there. it didnt start until i got up to speed prolly 15-20 then it was jumping like flipper

whats the best way to keep it from dolphining, lean forward lean back? all out acceleration? or are the 750's just this way?

you can lean forward as much as possible and get forward in the tray but the 750 sx's are like ankle weights...mine always dolphins on me when i go above cruising speed. I do weigh 200 pounds too though

Really theres no for sure fix.

Cheap fix for me last summer when I got the 750 was putting some washers under the back bolts of the ride plate. Lifting the back side up like 1/4". What that will do is force the nose into the water more and not want to jump out of the water. Although you will sacrifice some cornering as I've heard, but at least for me the thing rides SO much better.

Cheap way to help it is to weld a 3" extension to your ride plate, the best way is to buy hull extensions and extend ride plate and put tubbies on the front and a good scoop intake grate that will keep it hook up. It will be night and day difference.

all you need is a extended rideplate. best one i have used was worx with the D-cut!

anyone know about the R&D slasher ride plate? found one for sale on ebay, just curious if this will make a major improvement on porpoising.

Also found a regular worx ride plate. any opinions on this plate as well.
