750 for freestyle?

im a 17 year old senior in high school and im looking for a new ski, last spring i bought an 87 650 SX for 700, and im looking to upgrade. i mostly just do wake jumping/messing around, but i'll problybe heading out to teh coast more for some surf/offshore riding... what are you opinions on the 750 SX/SXi/ SXi Pro?.... and I KNOW that you all want me to get a superjet, but i love my 650, and i like the way 750 lookes, and i think square noses are ugly... i guess i just want to stay with Kawi, anyone have any advice?

I know you don't want to hear it but a SJ is hands down the best for what you want to do. Period....

Consider this can of worms officially open!

talk to ollie rastabean. he's got a lot of freestyle/freeride mods done to his sxi pro. He just upgraded to his SJ he's been working on for a while. :headbang:

what he said.

I started out on a 650sx also. The yamaha motor (even the 650) just seems to produce more bottom end grunt. I can't believe a 650sx owner is calling a Squarenose ugly. Thats like the pot calling the kettle black. :261:

No kidding...

I am a full on Superjet guy and completely agree with RMBC, and all other SJ riders... however, aside from kawi's being heavier, who cares. I know plenty of riders riding kawi's in the surf with great success. Rider skill, wave/surf knowledge and balls can make you a killer pilot on any ski. If it's kawi's you prefer, do it up, mod it out, and have fun bro. :fing02:

Beside, it could always be worse... you could be riding an LRV :smashfreakB: :pat:

X-
SX's , SXI's have been made into some great f/s skiis for surf and flatwater. A guy named Murphy from the midwest was a national amateur contender on 750 SX. Lloyd Burlew was competitive on one in the pro ranks and Mark Sickerling was phenomenal, even winning pro and am world titles on one. Go for it.

DISCLAIMER : I liked my 750 SX, I loved my SJ ............. but the WAM light is what its all about!

You got it!
I saw a guy last summer in Jacksonville pulling huge stabs in the surf on a totally stock 650sx! No footholds, no bilge pump, no nothing, 28mm carb, stock pipe. That's just straight skillz and balls! :Banane01:

But I still say get a superjet.

I have to agree with you a little there... :wall: but they look better to me when the nose is sanitized.

Who said you have to even get a square, you can find good deals on a round-nose if you're patient and keep your eyes peeled. :popworm:

I like the looks of my 650sx and it's still fun to ride, but after you ride a SJ you automatically know its all around better. I can't say anything about the sxi's cause I haven't ridden one yet, but do look sleak.... but a round nose looks just as if you get a new hood (lower) and cowling.

kawasaki made the 750 for racing. yamaha, made the round nose maybe a little for racing but they still had freestyle in mind. the yamaha 701 engine is designed to have more low end grunt. ive ridden compeltely stock SXI's and completely stock round noses, and although the SXI has a larger engine, the yamaha pulls noticably harder out of the hole. if you want to do freestyle then you want that low end power that yamaha designed their engines to have.

but if your mind is set, then you want to get all the same freestyle stuff as you would get for a super jet (pipe, head, foot holds, prop), but i think with the 750 a light weight hood is more essential than it would be for a super jet (to get rid of some of that extra weight). also i think that freestyle porting would give you that super jet feel (but im not positive).

ok, thanks for the input...and i want to clear one thing up... i NEVER said my 650 SX was beautiful, but its what i have. here in maine, finding a stand-up for sale is a rare event, so when i had the chance i jumped for it. i guess all of this "GET A SJ" talk did kinda change me, i think i might have to wait the summer, becuase im not even going to get to ride the ski i buy for the summer becuase im working on rental waverunners in Maui this summer. i'll have a chance to ride a new roundnose there, so i think i might have to do that before i buy... i dont know tho, i think the kawi's just look so much smoother and cleaner, the lines seem to flow (although the orange blowsion ski i keep seeing on here deffinatly exceeds any kawi) whereas the sj seems to have abrupt and sharp lines.

man ,
a 750 with a few bolt on parts will be great in the surf,
i made the switch to a superjet, and i do love it
However, there are a lot of things i miss about my 750's ( kinda glad i still have one, i just don't ride it much). I personally think superjets a squirrley in the air. Granted it takes less work to get them in the air, but a kawi has more grace and seem s to have a "float factor" liek when doing big stabs and stuff

Do it and enjoy., just keep an eye out on ebay and have a spare stator for when yours goes out.

enjoy

i had a full blown kawi freestyle boat. Just sold it last month. If you have any questions on what to buy, or where to get any engine work done, send me a pm.

Just ride
If your on a budget go with a squarenose superjet. It's the best bang for the buck, you dont need any mods besides maybe footholds to have fun on one. My buddy used to do barrel rolls in the surf with a completely stock, except for footholds, 650 superjet. You'll just have to work harder to do freestyle on a 750, and you'll have to dig deeper into your wallet than for a superjet if you wanna do flatwater.

I'll disagree. You can freestyle just as well on a Kawi as on a SJ, you just have to try harder. You arent gonna just hop, throw some footholds in, and barrel roll.
I've got money into my kawi motor, so im keeping it. You guys can swear by the yamaha motors, but its all technique. If my sxi pro can be barrel rolled, (which it was) anything is possible.
