701 SN SJ. Porposing

Im a 210lb rider. Primary use is lakes, messing around. Racing/rec and enjoying wakes and carving.

Problem is that i propose no matter how much i ease it into full throttle, even mid throttle. It even starts hopping on flat water. Ive tried moving forward and different positions.

Question is,. I see a Worx extended D cut and a jet dynamics extended concave.. what would be preferable. I called blowsion and they recommend the jet dynamics. Im not all about going fast, but i do think i would enjoy the aport more if i was able to.

Another few questions.
-do i buy a worx 201 intake grate? Or other choices.
-so i buy a 50$ nose cone? Worth?
-seems like everyone says to get a hooker 9/15 impeller?

Any extended plate, make sure the rear edge is at or below contour. Definitely get the worx 201. The cone is a total waste of money and the 9/15 is wonderful. If it still hops, shorten the pole. I think anyone over 150 probably needs a shorter pole.

Ya ive got a shortened pole.
Im having troubles visualising what you said about the contour. The description of the plate says it fits. And i havent modded the back of the tray

The rear edge needs to be the lowest part of the hull. It will hop uncontrollably if the rear bent up higher than the keel. I often have to shim ride plates to make them right. Jet dynamics acts like a finned plate but is still race legal. It doesn't do much for the flat turning SJ other than reduce steering authority. This may be a good thing depending on how you ride. It is hard to find the neutral point on these so you may have to experiment with shims if it has a tendency to hop.

Oh wow. Okay thank you. Ill have to inspect that. So over time the hull can warp and bend the rear upwards? To people spend time sanding and fiber glassing to properly repair that? Or does shimmy ng under the plate work just as well? Does that make siliconing the plate any more difficult

I have a Worx D plate and intake grate and have porpoising on a new to me SN SJ, but I'd have to check if the ride plate is shimmed down as mentioned above. I have noticed my pump is slightly shimmed down from previous owner.

I'm 150 pounds, 6'2" and have the stock pole. I've tried to lean forward to keep the nose down but doesn't seem to help much.

Note I have barely a couple hours of total time on a stand up.

They get bent from hitting the ground. We had a really long Worx plate that was easy to bend. Most of the ones that are only an inch or so longer are fairly stout. I use 1" washers for shims, one in the middle and two at the rear. You want to seal the grate. Sealing the plate is OK just make sure to put down tape and only seal the outside edge. It can be very difficult to remove otherwise.

I am just learning too. Last Summer I had problems with porpoising too. I found this advice about tray time very helpful:

I had the same issue! Cut my pole 4 1/2 inches problem solved. I weigh more than you do. It’s easy and it’s practically free. I

I verified that the rear of my ride plate is just lower than parallel with the hull. So more tray time and possibly shorter pole it is then. The wife even said she thought the pole was too long.

Ryan and Mazur: Longer ride plate really, really, really helps. And yes you can put a stainless steel washer one each under the back screws of the ride plate but don't tighten it too tight, which means you MUST use locktite or you will lose the ride plate to the river bottom. I will send you the page from the Service Manual about this tomorrow.

I weigh between 195 and 207 lbs. and I like the ProTec extended ride plate. But the other guys here have more experience than me. And I am especially liking Kevbo's take on things so listen to him and to other more knowledgeable people.

And you know what is crazy in a scary kinda way? The faster you go, the less porpoising you do. And the sketchier it gets until you have enough tray time to be used to the speed.

I wouldn't cut up your handle pole until you have many, many hours on your ski. And then you may like it longer like this guy. Notice he is in front and he is going as fast as that race modified 550 will go. Do you think he would benefit from a shorter pole in the body position he is in?

Once you get comfortable with what the hull does at speed, you can experiment with where you put your feet/body weight in the tray. The tray truly is a dance floor. I am just learning that now. You can't park on the dance floor. You have to have dynamic not static feet. It makes a HUGE difference. (That is the stage I am at right now. Welcome to this very frustrating and rewarding all at the same time sport.)

So i just got home from the lake. I noticed a weird water spot on the surface of the hull dripping..... Wiped it off and it emedietly started dripping again. I just lifted the back of the ski by hand and it was insanely heavy. Compaired it to lifting my kawasaki, and the kawai was insanely light. I honestly think i have 70lbs of water in my rear of hull.

So do i just cut the sides and dig out the foam. Or cut from the bottom.

How big of a project am i looking at

Anyone have a link to an existing forum of defoaming a tray and rear of the jet ski
There are plenty of threads on it. Go from the top. This is a good opportunity to install footholds. Use a wire end cup brush (Norton makes one), that will obliterate the foam. Otherwise cut, pry, etc, just remove it. You have a few options for foam, US composites has a 2 part foam if you chose to get glass and epoxy from them.

Also, can someone tell me if this rnd intake grate and ocean pro plate are any good?

Was thinking about buying a worx 201 grate and a jet dynamics concave plate. but are they even better than these?
