701 61x superjet not starting helpppppp.....

Alright guys well this past week I went out camping with some friend and brought the skis, My girlfriends skis been acting up a bit lately just randomly taking a while to start. it would kind just chug and chug then once it fired it would run for a sec and die. Once you got it going it wouldn't have any more problems all day and this only happened once out of a whole week of hard riding. but on Wednesday I ran into some trouble the cooling line intake fell off while a friend was riding , the hull filled up about halfway with water by the time my friend noticed. we got it to shore got it pumped dry, let it cool, fixed all the hoses and it fired right up after. (got lucky there lol ) the ski ran great Thursday and Friday and I even started it dry on Saturday and it ran great. so while we were there the top fell off the Blowsion filter and this was literally the first use of of the filter. so I went out this past Tuesday to take a video if the motor because Blowsion said the motor vibration caused the top to fall off , which I don't think Is true but anyway it fired right up but before I could get my phone out to take a video it died....... and I couldn't get it to start up again and now I've been trouble shooting and there's no spark I went through cosanders checklist and I haven't found any problems the only thing I haven't tried is the cdi... anyone have any ideas on what it might be ?

Alright I’ll give both of those a try I have my ski and it runs good so I have parts I can swap and test. If the Cdi failed wouldn’t it have failed immediately after it filled with water ? It ran great for like 3 days after it filled. And the Ebox is perfectly dry? I’m still gunna give it a shot today

Here's a super helpful diagnostic checklist that helped me fix my no-start problem on my SJ

You really need a multi-meter to diagnose it correctly. If you are not even getting a click when you hit the button, then try the simple things first before you tear anything apart. The OEM plugs right outside the ebox for the S/S switch can get corroded internally make sure that’s not it.

All these should be true in this order:

  • -12v at the battery while pressing the start button (meter red probe on + and black probe on -)
  • If you don't bad battery
  • -12v at the battery while pressing the start button (red probe on battery + and black probe on a CLEAN, BARE metal spot on the motor...not a bolt head,not a fitting...a CLEAN BARE spot of the casting of the motor even if you have to make a spot)
  • 12v while pressing start button -->ok
  • immediate drop in voltage when the start button is pressed--->bad ground
  • -12v at both solenoid posts while pressing the start button (red probe on one post at a time, black probe on battery - )
  • While pushing the start button, if you get 12v on both posts and get no cranking then your problem is the starter or cable ends at the starter
  • If you get 12v on one post but not the other then your problem is in the S/S switch circuit.

  • S/S switch circuit is real easy to diagnose with the ebox apart. With the box open:
  • -There is a little red wire spliced into your battery cable that connects to your fuse holder. You should have 12v inside the side of the fuse holder that connects to that wire (red probe inside the fuse holder, black probe on the ground post that the starter relay is grounded to)
  • No 12V-->bad splice or connection to the battery cable, or bad ebox ground from stator
  • Have 12V-->ok
  • -The brown wire that connects to your starter solenoid, unplug this wire and test the end coming from your s/s switch (red probe on brown wire connector and black probe on ground post that the solenoid is grounded to)
  • While pressing the start button:
  • 12v on brown wire coming from switch-->bad relay or relay ground
  • No 12V on brown wire-->your problem is in the S/S switch or any associated connection starting from the red wire spliced into your battery cable and ending at the brown wire that plugs into your solenoid.
  • If nothing simple solves it then follow that order, it will take everything out of the equation. As long as you are testing the connections correctly and there are no goofy or ghetto fab connections someone made or altered in your ski you'll find the problem.

Superjets disable the start button when the lanyard is off so if it's turning over then it's probably not the stop. Not to say it is impossible but it is unlikely.

Kawasakis however are different and will crank with no spark when the lanyard is off.

That’s another good checklist ! I’m honestly thinking is not grounding properly I haven’t had time to work on it this week I’m going to try some more tonight I’ll let you guys know how it goes thank you for all the suggestions!

Okay guys I finally figured it out I guess it was the starter relay that was a good checklist thank you guys so much I'm a bit of a ski newbie I'm still getting my ski legs if you will lol
