Find someone local that you can transfer the mark off their stator onto yours, and do a proper test on the exiter coil and charge coil.

ok.....here is the latest.....finally got the stator plate replaced and identified the ground wire (since there were two black wires with no stripes, I also ohmed everything out and it seems fine and now that I have a scribe mark I lined it up.....sure is a hell of a lot easier to line something when it is thers...geez)....tried to fire it up and still no go......battery has to be recharged before I go any further......however....I pulled the plugs to see if they were getting wet the front is the back is not and on closer inspection I found that the rear is gapped closer. I am going to go ahead and replace the plugs.....can I get these at an auto store? what is the gap specification and plug type that I need? Feel free to chime in......and thanks again....guess I can either mow the yard now or start prepping the motors to go into the xl700 and roundie.....I think once I get the kawi running good, I might just go ahead and sell it and get another SJ (already running or close to) so I can ride......then I can give the roundie a complete work over.....

1/8" either way on the stator shouldnt keep the ski from even trying to start. thats obviously not the problem.

what kind of plugs are in there now? if its a stock head, they should be NGK br7es.

your lack of starting could be an air leak somewhere.

ok.....got new plugs in.......still same problem..........however I do notice that when I try to start it will spin several rotations at one speed then slow down and act like it is killing the battery....(which it is) and then it speeds up again......think I am going to check the starter and ground next......

OK........guess what guys/gals........I've got fire now.........I swapped everything but the stator, even took out/tested the starter........no luck..
Finally, I decided to try another stator (even though this stator was bought new/rebuilt from JSS when Garrett owned it)......and wouldn't you know it I hit the start button and it popped........goes to show ya that new/rebuilt parts can be bad......it happens....I need to contact someone at JSS to see if I can get the defective stator replaced since it apparently has not worked since purchased. I am ok with it.....it happens....just want to see if I can get it replaced.....

Now I need specs on how to tune/jet a mikuni sbn44 I have installed ......anyone have those handy?

Mark the stator as bad, nothing worse than parts sitting on a shelve for a couple years that don't work, and you forget that.

Actually, Garrett bought a new/refurb because it wouldn't start and sold me the ski (he was upfront stating that it had an electrical gremlin) so he had a bad stator to begin with.......which he then replaced with a new/refurb defective stator he purchased as a replacement....
