650sx.....won't start (FIRE IN THE HOLE!)

Ok.....here we go.......have a 650sx with 151/155 compression, spark, juice the whole nine yards.........won't pop or start.......the stator has been replaced.....I have OHMed the coil with the yellow wires......not OPEN....so that's good.....in process of checking others.....question is......is there a specific position for the stator for engine timing.....? or is there something else I might be missing......

Thanks,
Michael....:banghead: :sneaky: :banghead: :grumble:

bumpity bump.......arrrrghhhhhh.........lol.....
seriously this is the first of three skis I am trying to get into the water before the Alabama summer ends........it's first cause it is 95% complete, then comes the XL700, then my prized one da roundie.........

if it is getting gas and you have checked for spark then the only thing i can think of would be....like you said...the timing. i am not sure about positioning it but i would think there would be a key so that it went together a certain way. maybe somebody else will give you the specific answer you are looking for.

youve got 2 yami engines and a roundie but youre fugging with a 650sx????:banghead:

the scribed mark on the stator should line up with the seam in the case halves.

you can have properly timed spark, compression, fuel and air and still not have ignition if your crank seals are bad.

you didnt mention whether or not youre getting spark and/or what color the spark (if any) is.

getting blue spark........got the stator pulled away......it is a rebuilt JCS? stator tabs are broken but replaced by a plate......I know........this ski is for the beginners so I can ride mine.......unfortunately still waiting on some parts for my roundie......of course any ride right now would be better than none......

Don't really see anything that could be passed off as a "scribe" mark.........not in the area where it should be anyway.....the stator is adjustable.......just not sure where to start......It was centered.......just don't want to keep having to take the flywheel off to change and try.......anyone have a manual (with pictures)?

how old are the spark plugs. How did you check for spark? The screwdriver trick or did you ground the plug to a bolt. Are the plugs wet? I'd try that easy shiz first. But since you dont know where to put in the stator, I'd try to find the factory mark first thing.

i found a mark.....but what to reference it to on the stator is the question....the stator plate mounting points are broken..... and have a retro fitted oval plate to mount stator.....spark plugs are not that old (if I remember correctly).....I grounded the plug to the bolt for blue spark.....plugs are a little wet now cause i am priming the carb with gas....does any of this ring a bell.....
I wish I had a wiring diagram available......
I hope it is not the crank seals as mentioned above......but I checked the front one when I removed the flywheel looks good visually........

If the plugs are wet, then that means that your plugs arent firing, try a new set of plugs, however, since they are wet, it sounds like the fuel charge is getting in fine.

I dont know what to do about the stator, unless a kawi guy can chime in.

Timing must line up, check the flywheel, they are known to spin at the keyway. If you need specs on the stator, I can look it up by year. If the CDI is dead, I have not had luck testing them, I usually swap with another good one . The mark above the stator mount hole is the timing point, there should be a similar one on the stator plate. Crab

meatball I have heard mention of a CDI in a Kawi before but I only see a voltage regulator, starter relay, and coil....I see the mark on the upper crankcase half however I do not see one on the stator because the outer lip of the stator mount points are broken, the stator is held in by two screws and oval plates that fit into the stator mount points.......does that make any sense?
