300/440/550 650sx Stock Pipe Mod, mod

Shifty

- SuperJet Thursday -
I am about to modify my GF's 650sx's stock exhaust as show in this thread

- I have a few questions, can I braze a stainless nipple on the tail cone, does stainless braze? Any special brazing rod/ flux for that?

- Has anyone made the small orifice in the headpipe adjustable like a FPP system? Seems like I could drill a 1/8" hole through the pipe and then open up and tap the hole in the outer jacket to accept a tappered screw and locknut.

Thanks again for the help,

Great idea, I think Butch was trying something similar on his Coffman's but He never posted any results.

I don't think you need anything special for brazing stainless, but don't take my word for it...

I am going to try this tonight, what size should the screw be? I have a tap for the common 10mm head screw (like a battery terminal screw) I could drill the 1/8" inch hole the drill a size xyz hole on the outer jacket, is this thread size too big? I plan on tapering the screw end to a point so that it will enter the 1/8" hole easily.

Thanks again,

GASKETS FOR CHAMP BRAP!
You could braze it, if you use the right flux-coated rod and an acetylene torch.

I took a Metallurgy in college and welded at the Kawasaki factory for 2 years and also worked in a welding shop for a few years. Welding/brazing is fun if you dont have to do it for a living...
