well i put my 650 sx in the garage over a month ago and it was running pretty good. noow i try to get it started and .... NO SPARK i changed the e-box with one that i had sitting around and still ... NO SPARK it cranks just fine. i have changed that battery thinking that these ski's are picky about the battery and still no spark. what is the deal. someone help. I have a guy that wants to buy it, but i can't sell it because it won't start. it is getting fuel just no spark. HELP!!!!!!

yes the plugs were grounded. and i have tryed two diffrent ignition coils so trimming the plug wires most likly wont help. the only thing i havent swaped is the stator. I am leaning towards it might be that.

i was going to try the switch next. i have a 750 lanyard switch on it that i had to splice in so maybe it is shorting out. it cranks fine though and it also gets one spark as soon as i hit the button. i don't know I HATE 650'S!!!!! THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING GOING WRONG WITH THEM!

lol are you kidding me? i bought a 650 that wasn't started in 2 years and had gas older than that fire up.....ON THE 2+ YEAR OLD GAS!(smoked like a b!tch) those motor's are solid.if you got a electrical tester i'll send you the specs. just let me know. and i third the start stop switch notion, mine went out on me.....

i know it is hard to kill the 650sx! the engine is tough, but it seems like every time i ride that ski i come home flush and wash it and the next time i try to take it out it has an electrical issue.

lol ok thats why we are here, to help you find those little gremlins and punt them back to the evil keebler factory they came from. but really check your start stop switch,(mine went bad on me) i spliced the stop wire and had it ready to reconnect when i wanted to kill the motor (or you can prime it to death) i hit the start button and she roared to life. now you could avoid that with a tester and checking for a complete circuit(bad) but if you dont have one use ghetto/redneck method...... if you want the electrical schematics for your 650sx pm me your e-mail

It's great that you're gained the experience to make a difference with the vintage ski's. I'm working on a 87js650sx that has lost its spark. All the ohms readings are inspec. I have looped the start wires in electric box. Unhooked kill switch wires at the cdi. The only out of spec ohms readings are yellows individually to black . .black / yellow .. engine case all show 5.9 ohms. This readings are Unhooked and hooked as tested to the regulator. Please let me know if you think my stator is grounding out.all parts are OEM so far. Thanks

The next check I would make is AC voltage between the black-red and black ground wires , you are looking for 35VAC.

Ac voltage between black/ red and black ground at lug on reg/rectifyer shows 50 then 36. Between Negative battery terminal and red/black same readings. I unhooked the red/black from cdi and tested red/black stator side wire only correct? Is 12 volts dc going into the cdi coil box or 35 volts ac?

35VAC going in , if this were a Yamaha you would now check the AC voltage coming out of the CDI going to the coil, but since it is an integrated CDI-coil , you can't check that.

But the result is the same, on either system if voltage is going into the CDI-COIL and nothing is coming out of the CDI-coil then something is wrong with the CDI-coil assy.

Unless that CDI was swapped from a known running ski, you are just swapping parts for no reason.
