Hey guys I have an 88 650sx with the stock pole. The Thing moves around sooo bad. Like it wiggles prolly and inch both ways. I replaced the bushings last season, It helped a little for a little while but its back again.. Even though its TIGHT. I have heard something about drilling the hole bigger then replacing with different bushing.. Or something like that. Also has anyone ever put a Rn pole and bracket on a 650sx? If anyone has any input on how I can fix the slop that would be awesome!

I put a RN pole on my 650sx. I welded up my own bracket and had to mod the top of the pole to allow for the steering cable work with an sxr turn plate.

Nice! Any pics? Would it be possible to use a Rn steering cable if routed properly to fit? noob question I know..

Not sure, I just used the stock cable...if the length and throw is close then why not.
Nicce that looks really good. I like how you glassed in the nose piece also. That's Legit.
Thanks. The ski didn't have the plastic nose piece/fuel door so I just shaped a peice of foam and glassed it on. This boat was my first excursion into glass work so it wasn't pretty but it held up and I beat the piss out of it until the crank went.

Yep it had tubbies, footholds, full reinforcement, and was shortened 3". For what it was it rode great.
Happen to have any pics of how you shortened it? I am in the middle of a 650sx project and I just might chop it. Any more input about the difference your mods made? Sounds like you ended up getting rid of it?

If I do I'll have to hunt for them. On that particular hull I glassed the flat caps back on once shortened like you see in a lot of the shortening builds now. The 650 rideplate uses 6 bolts so I just eliminated the rear two and ran 4...no issues there. Nothing but positives with the mods in my opinion...other than dumping $$ into a 650. I had also modded the hood to pull air from the rear and minimize water intake. The tubbies and rn pole (-6 if i recall) were hands down the best mods on that boat for cornering and stability. Just talking about it rehashes how much fun I had over 5 seasons on that thing. The crank let go which motivated me to finish the yamasaki (yami powered 750 hull) project I was working on. I later sold the hull to a guy locally that transplanted his 650 stuff in it.

I woulda bought it :) Now I gotta see the Yamasaki build.. did you start a build thread?

Nope unfortunately I never did. I did do a decent job of getting pics throughout that build though. I always have the intention to take the time to put together a build thread then get too focused on the task at hand once it starts. At that point I just want to ride and never get around to it. There's some videos floating around of that boat and random pics as well as the sale thread on the hull itself somewhere.

Lol...I don't wanna crap up a 650 pole conversion thread with 750 pics but the hull sale thread can be found here:

If you want to see poor attempts at free ride and even worse attempts at video editing search whitca16 on youtube. There's not much but some oldies on the 650 and 750.

Found some old 650 pics. There's shortening pics and a few RN pole pics. The green hull was a build I did for a buddy that I did the nose fill on too. It turned out way better than my blue boat. I spent a lot more time massaging the tubbie for the side exhaust too.

Ahh man.. Now your inspiring me to cut up a 650 hull for the funn of it. And do the front fill, Maybe try to reshape the front with some rocker or something. Id like to start a 650sx CHOP SHOP thread so we can get people who have cut the rears and fronts of 650's up to post that might be cool.

Love that nose fill!! How short was that white aluminum pole on the green ski? Bout the length on the RN poles? longer?

It's longer than the rn pole was...he still rides that boat. I believe it was a -2...no idea what brand. I cut that rn pole down twice until it was where I liked it then wrapped it with carbon. I think you'll find quite a few flat deck 650 projects but not too many guys shortening them and even fewer adding rocker...can't think of a single one.
