650/X-2 650SX Crank-No start

Hi all,

Currently have an issue with a 1988 650SX. Recently put a new stator on the rig as the old one was toast. After sealing everything up the ski is cranking over, but it will not start. Is the stator junk or was it installed incorrectly? Woodruff Key is good, carb is getting fuel, and both plugs are making blue spark when pulled. To my knowledge the thing should start.

The new stator is a 4 wire (BK/Y, PU, BR, BR) but my Ebox is setup with 5 wires (BK/Y, BK, Y, Y, (BK/R to the CDI)) (photos attached)

The BR Males from the stator are attached to the Y Females on the regulator. Purple Female is attached to the BK/R male from the CDI and the BK/Y male from the stator plugs to the BK/Y female that goes to the regulator and solenoid. When looking at the attached diagrams, it looks like Purple and BK/Y could be switched, but they are not the correct types of plugs and would have to be cut and soldered to fit. Please let me know if there’s something obvious that I’m missing. Ski’s been sitting a while so it could be a variety of things.

You are going to have to do some electrical checks to find out if the stator is junk or not , my guess is it's Chinese junk but put a volt ohm meter leads in the purple and the black yellow wires, spin it over and see what you have, you are looking for around 35 VAC , either it's there or it isn't , if it is most likely the CDI- COIL is bad , although as old as that thing is it could be as simple as bad spark plug leads , the stock ones are pretty much junk , also make sure the stop switch is disconnected when checking for spark although the start stop on the Kawis rarely cause spark loos as it does on a Yamaha .
