Super Jet 650 vs 701 CDI

Hi,

I used to know the answer to this, but it's been a while. I have a 2004 701 SJ that I yanked the CDI and replaced it with an MSD Enhancer. Can I just throw that 2004 CDI into the Ebox of a 1991 650 SN? I believe the newer one has a higher rev limit?

Thanks

that would be a no. Your 2004 is going to be a 62t CDI, and a 650 SN is a 61x/6m6 cdi. To run the cdi you have you will need a 62t flywheel and stator. the MSD i believe has two wires that only one gets hooked up depending on which electrical system you run. The difference is the timing of the magnets in the stator and the diameters of the inside of the flywheel is smaller for 61x/6m6 than it is for 62t.

After doing a bit of digging i have found there has been some success with a 62t cdi on a 61x/6m6 stator/flywheel, but you have to change a connector over from female to male or vise versus. However running a 61x cdi on a 62t stator/flywheel will burn out the cid as the 62t stator puts out a higher voltage. Most of this is untested areas with only a few willing to rick their parts to try it, so theres always mixed opinions. I try to keep it matching, for peace of mind mainly.

Yes that is correct , I had a 62T cdi on a 61x Motor with 61x stator and flywheel on an old ski. All that was needed was to change the connector which was super easy

62T CDI has a higher rev limit. You can always sell or trade the 62T for a 61X, which has a higher limit, or send the 6M6 to OCD Solutions for his adjustable mod!

I had a 6m6 cdi that took a crap on my 91 superjet. I replaced it with a 61x cdi with a higher rev limit. I think its 6400 to 7200. I really think it made a difference and I think its right when you're leaving a wave those extra rpms are used. A normal wide open throttle run with the pump hooked up it won't be any faster though.
