650/X-2 650 SX Flat Deck Conversion

so i have been reading a ton about doing this and finally got the nerves to do it... i do have some questions about the original foam and what its supposed to be like compared to what its not supposed to be like... my foam looks ok but idk what the consistency is supposed to be so before i go glassing in the deck i wanna make sure i dont have to refoam... other than that i think i will be ok... im going to be using epoxy resin and reinforce like another guy did with the metal and concave the deck for more leverage... here is what i have started to do...ski1.jpgski2.jpgski3.jpg

also can i just spray foam the deck to get the shape that i want? or do i have to use 2 part foam? any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

well i decided to defoam the tray... i still need to break out the pressure washer and get the nitty gritty out of it.. and im gonna line the bottom with a layer of glass and resin for reinforcement... im liking the idea of beer pong balls with 2 part over it so i can shape the trayski4.jpg

i also have an ac racing pole on the way for it.. i paid a fraction of the cost for it tho!!! i am gonna chop and reshape the nose and move the pole mount up about 2 inches and get an internal fuel fill so i can glass the nose cuz i dont have a nose cone... i really had no idea what i wanted to do with this thing untill i started tearing into it and ideas just kept coming to me... btw, this is my first ski and first build ever!!! lol

just got the gaskets, seals, and bearings to rebuild the engine today... also finished up getting the foam out of the tray and ordered my supplies through us composits!!!ski5.jpg
my list for materials...
1/2 gal kit of epoxy resin
4lb expanding foam, 16lb kit
4 yards of 17 oz biax
pumps
bubble roller
should be seeing the supplies the end of next week and i will have this thing ready for paint... downfall is having to look at this thing through the winter...

Definitly a good idea to get the ac pole, the stock one is definitly a huge heavy peice of crap, that why i completly got ride of mine and went with the X2 setup, i hope you got a set of straight bars for your new pole, that a must have as well and like the idea of moving the pole mount forward, will be intrested in seeing how it works out

Ya i have a few mods already... Finger throttle , blowsion bars, skat trak 13/16, wet wolf pump cone, odi lock on grips, and im in the process of getting pipe and carb and intake

i saw on another thread that you where modifing the stock pipe and intake to put a super bn44 on it. I dryed out my stock head pipe on my 650 and used the second half of a 440/550 westcoast pipe for the stinger portion on my pipe, the 440/550 westcoast pipe fits right into the stock pipe and then you don't have to weld in a stinger. Drying out the pipe definitly make a huge difference.

For my carb i used a stock 750sx carb which bolts up to the 650 manifold with just a little grinding, i used stock 750sx jetting and it works pretty good with good plug color

ya the pics r from my iphone... sry!!!i have an opiton to send the full size... i have the nose cut off and ready to pour foam in everything... and i got my goodie box from us composites today!!! so im gonna be busy this weekend if i can convince the fiance that this is a priority!!! the guy i got the ac pole off of is parting out a trick 650 setup so i snagged the aftermarket intake with reed stuffers and his sbn44 setup... and how do i dry out the pipe? also on the list of things i got today is the new pistons and rings... i riggid honed my cylinders and they cleaned up nicely... so the motor is going back together once i get the cases, cylinders, head, and stator cover back from being hot tanked and glass blasted... im gonna paint the motor... this is probably one of the most highly moddified 650sx that will be built... and no its not a superjet but i am one to be different and i got this ski cheap... and its not just another superjet build... i think the only thing i need now is a set of dakine straps... im thinking i want the white ones cause im gonna be doing white turf!!!

nice, I am debating flat decking my SX also instead of selling it. I want to build a fixed steer hood for it though. I may look into a project like this over the winter.

I spoke to WFO yesterday, he pointed me in a direction to get started. I think the Fixed steer SX would be kinda fun and different. I am looking for a spare hood to cut up and mold

are you going to fix steer or just flatdeck it.

im doing flat deck with a nose job... lol... i have an ac racing pole on the way for it and just got the motor rebuilt TODAY for it... like i said earlier... im gonna get this ski done and just be staring at it untill spring... haha... when i start projects i want to get them done quickly as possible... but at the same time, take my time to make it right

PM Madscientist last I heard he wasn't going to use that fixed steering hood I gave back to him, all it needs is a Seadoo steering helm and its bolt on and go.

i just got conformation that my pole and sbn44 with maximum thrust intake is shipped and on its way!! im going to be adding a trim system now... got the idea from WFO speedracer... so if anyone has an x2 trim components they want to get rid of let me know!!!

well i got the motor together... fresh everything... and bead blasted... im gonna clear it cuz i think it looks really good as is... i also started my first fiberglassing exp... its super easy... i patched 2 holes in the rear of the ski.. which is where the water got into my foam from... after that cures im going to be pouring foam and shaping it how i want...i have a few wild ideas that i pieced together from other flat decks ive seen... here are a few pics...ski7.jpgski6.jpg

well i poured the foam and shaped it today... not the shape i was going for but it will work!!! im wondering if i should put in reinforcment bars... like another guy did with his flat deck... any suggestions? i plan on using 3 layers of 17oz biax on the deck...

oh i also cut the bondline off the back a little bit to maybe help with water flow... that and i think it looks better
