Got a '91 SN 650 superset. It's bone stock except for added a pisser and a SS prop. Just rebuilt the carb in the spring and took it out last week to tune it in. Had it running on the water for about 2 minutes and came in to adjust the carb and it wouldn't restart. If I let it sit for 10-15 minutes it would start up again but won't run long.
Today I put in new plugs and added a pisser. I'm also using fresh gas/oil.
When running it on the hose I can verify that the cooling is working correctly. I ran it for 2-3 minutes on the hose idling and revving it up. It seemed to run fine, the head and exhaust were lukewarm/cool to touch. Then the ski died again. I pulled the plugs and they were fairly clean, checked and I have no spark.
This would happen last summer as well. I would be out riding and when I'd come in to switch riders we couldn't get the ski started again for 10-15 minutes. After that it would start and ride fine. Not every time just intermittently.
I have cleaned the contacts for the kill switch/lanyard and re-assembled. It was working well but needed cleaning every 1-2 months last year.
Also before I started it today i checked the spark and I did have spark but it wasn't a big fat spark, seemed kinda weak but I really don't know what to compare it to.
I've searched for other people with this issue but everyone that has/had it never posted their fix.
Has this happened to anyone else? I'm wondering if my coil is shot? (just a guess) any ideas?
Thanks
