my mate has just boughht a rad charging flywheel turns out it is of a 650 and wontgo over the 701 stator if he puts a 650 stator on and uses the fly wheel would this be ok. i supose the question is if i were to put standard 650 stator and stock 650 flywheel on a 701 i know it would run but would there be a spark difference ?
thanks

they are identical as far as Im concerned. The CDI's are the same except for the rev limiter difference, hence using the same spark.

Superjets have 2 stator setups 61x (650 and 94-95 701 -smaller stator and wheel) and 62t (96 up 701).
the stators & flywheels are not interchangable, meaning you can not run a 61x flywheel with a 62t stator or the other way around. However you can run either one in a 701. I like the 61x for freestyle and the 62t for topend. 61x in stock form the wheel is lighter and the mass is closer to the center so hits better, trade off is ignition flutter at sustained wide open (not a concern in freestyle). 62t in stock form is a little heaver then the 61x and the mass is not as close to center as the 61x, however the closed magnet design fixes the ignition flutter issues at higher RPMs.

it sounds like your buddy has a 61x radwheel and a 62t stator. I have a lightend 62t wheel i would work out a trade for the rad wheel if he wants. Or keep and eye on ebay for a 61x stator.

we have a 61x stator so we will run with that i wonder if the issue up top would still be there with the rad flywheel considering the upgrade in magnents thanks for the reply powder

I think he will be very happy with that setup, the flutter isn't that bad and only at high RPMs.

Make sure you double check Ignition timing with a timing light as I have seen 650 ignitions in 701's way off and then add the RAD flywheel you could be way off on timing!!!:cool2:

thinkin of using my 650 electronics in a 62t case and doin my research, sorry to bump the old thread. Full electronics systems can be swapped from case to case, but I couldn't use a 62t stator with a 6m6 flywheel correct?

I saw that, and was thinking of using a 61x flywheel/stator also... i just thought he was talking about the electrical box itself minus flywheel/stator.

i was confused about what all is included in the "electrics" term.

Just to clarify 6m6=61x but not equal to 62t.....
The flywheel/stator setups are the same on 6m6 (650) 61x (701) and therefore interchangeable.............62t different animal......if looking at a 6m6 and 62t stator side by side you can easily spot the difference.....I believe they use the same stator plate, but the pickups on the 62t are longer (surface area wise), stick out further (to mate up with the 62t flywheel), and just to keep it simple flywheel wise for those that do not know......a 6m6/61x flywheel will have four separate protruding magnets where as the 62t will appear to be continuous

the three main parts are Flywheel, stator, CDI. Flywheel and stator have to be like for like can't mix and match X and Ts. CDI's if you are running MSD or any aftermarket they are the same. OEM they have different partnumbers but I am not sure how different they are. Chuck maybe you can clear this up on the CDIs?

i think the rad runs one complete magnet on there 61x flywheel
so it should help get rid of the flutter
well the magnets are all enclosed anyway
from my understanding the problem was the air gap causing the issue

how do you do that, I have the tool to hold in the bendix, and the timing light.
what do I do next?

Find TDC, use a degree wheel to make timing marks on the case (for TDC), make sure there are timing marks on the flywheel, then use a timing light.

Are all timing lights the same .Been a while but the last time set up a msd I had some trouble with the snap on timing light not working properly, but worked fine on the car. 2 stroke ,4 stroke ???

Not 100% sure. I know the light I got works.
