62T rebuilt cost ??

Boris

The Good Old Days
I picked up a 701 62T to stick into my square nose.
The motor needs a rebuild and I'm just wondering what the rough cost might be.

I need a
crank,
pistons,
cylinders need to be bored(.50mm should do it),
a port job would be nice,
gaskets and seals,

This motor would be replacing my 650 so I don't need a monster as I don't think I am ready for all that power. I just want something that will live a long and happy life as I work on my riding skills.

I know exact pricing might vary, all I need is a rough estimate so I can get prepared financially.

Thanks guys.

And that sound like a pretty conservative estimate. I would add about $300 to that.

SFL where are you getting a crank for $350 and a piston kit for $150.

Hook me up with your supplier.:sneaky:

SBT crank - $275
Hot Rods crank - $350-$400
Pistons - $75 - $95

i don't think that's too far off, crank no more than 400 for a hot rods, pistons i just put in were less than 150 with pin and bearings. granted i got a deal and a half but no more than 200, bore i would bet 75 to 80 and not even sure about the porting. but i would bet you're looking at just under a grand for a fully fresh and new motor

if you can use your 650 crank knock off a bunch or send it in and get an sbt if your willing to

also depending what you intend to do you can get a motor rebuild with crank, pistons ,gaskets etc for 400 on ebay evey day of the week
all wsm parts

You get a top end piston kit for a twin for $75-90. Isnt it more like $100 per cylinder?

I will add that I am thinking a non-sbt crank that is trued and welded.

well then you are looking at over 400 for a crank unless you get a used one, the hot rods on average not welded go for 400 and stock even more

Exactly
And do you really want to take a chance on a used crank???????

you certainly wont save a 'bunch' with an SBT crank. especially in the long run.

yami cranks dont need to be welded unless theyre pushing SERIOUS SERIOUS hp...

... or if theyre made by SBT:biggrin:

Correct, per cylinder. I thought that was a given:biggthumpup:

Love the feedback, thank you all.

The crank in my 650 is good and I did think about using it but I also like the idea of a back up motor.
SBT is out of the question, I know some have had good luck with their stuff but I have seen my share of their products.

Main goal for this motor is to be as reliable as possible with the potential for upgrades down the road. Right now the 650 with pipe is enough for me but I hope to improve enough that I will need and want more power.

How much does an OEM crank go for ?

I think a ball park of $750 for everthing you need for parts and boring.
and between $300-$500 for porting.
Who still does bores for $50?
More like $50 a hole with chaffer ports up here in the North
Hey Ski4- Did you measure & weigh those cheepy pistons?

not too worried about the pistons at all,
never said they were cheapy just that i got a good deal

made by art ( like pro x, sudco and oem)

just searching now, jetskimechanic.com lists his porting price as 275 including the exhaust manifold.

ski4,
that does look like a good deal.
If they do use good bearings on the cranks than I might give them a call.

Tomorrow, I will be talking to a guy that might be doing the porting.
I have gotten parts through him in the past for my GPR and he did have awesome prices (good connections at Yamaha and a racers discount).

I never played with the 2 cylinder yamahas before so I had no idea what parts cost. I wanted to get an idea before I go and order anything.

If I can keep the cost under a grand that I will be more than happy.

One more question.

Would it make sense to send my crank to get rebuilt ?
All that is wrong with this one is that it sat for a while with some rain water in the cases. The bearings turn quite easy but they do have some rust on them, the rest is all good.

cool man, i thought long and hard about that set up on ebay, he will upgrade to pro x pistons for like another 50 or 60 bux i think, you'll need a core crank but those can be had cheap anyhow most of the time on ebay as well.

good luck

do they spin quietly and nice? is ther any up and down play in the big end of the rods? you can get it rebuilt but it costs just about as much . i talked with tdr and it was the same for a rebuild with hot rods as it was to get a hot rods crank and still have my junk one here for a core

you can for sure do itfor under a grand, just have to price shop and be patient

ah, playtime powersports. i remember them. they were mainly a polaris dealer that went out of bidness when polaris stopped making couches.

anyway, i wouldnt go with WSM pistons. they are JUNK. its got WSM rods too.

....and dont get me going on the F.A.G. bearings
:haha:
