Blaster 61x case problem

update -

got into the case today. took the flywheel off and got the bendix back out.

couple questions that i have are.
(1) do i need to remove the stator? could that be any way possible my problem? visually it looks good and i got it used from a "running" ski i was told. there isnt any big breaks or anything in it.
(2) I noticed on the crank shaft on the flywheel side there is a groove in the shaft. is there something that goes in that groove? looks like a half moon. doesnt look broke it looks stock but there isnt anything in this hole. is there a reason for this hole? is the flywheel supposed to line up with this hole in anyway?

the bendix opens and retracts fine. although it is a little sandy feeling when i turn the small set of teeth that actually connects to the flywheel. i did what i was told above and set it in a zip lock bag with atf tranny fluid and opened it and played with the gears and things to try and get the fluid around the moving parts of the bendix.

Is there anything else i can do?

you are supposed to have a keyway in that groove on the crankshaft. It is there to locate the flywheel so your timing is correct. The bolt then holds it in place

Stator plays no part in your problem. The flywheel key is a "D" shaped key that aligns the flywheel, they can be bought at most hardware stores. As for the bendix... good luck, I have seen a flywheel cover cut in 2 so that the bendix was held in place but the rest of flywheel was open, you could inspect the bendix in operation to see exactly what the problem is. I'm not sure what the application was but i think it was for tuning the timing on a dyno.

but from my reading it could be my starter or bendix.

bendix not opening smoothly
starter not engaging hard enough

is the above correct or could my problem be the alignment of my flywheel without the key in the crank and my starter and bendix working fine?

got the bendix out of the fluid and dried out. it opened and closed good. put it back together and problem still happening.
