61x “cheap” motor mods

i have a 1990 sn with a 61x single mikuni 44 sbn swapped in. im adding a factory dry pipe and rebuilding the carb and checking the reeds. while i have exhaust and intake apart, is there anything relatively cheap i can do to increase engine performance? ex polishing intake, removing the choke? does changing reeds make much of a difference? what would you do? just looking for recommendations. thanks!

also forgot to mention ill be taking off the head and cleaning out the water passages and changing out any zincs that may be needing to be replaced

deck the head a few thousands to raise compression. Port match and polish the exhaust manifold, polish the cylinder exhaust ports, port match the reed cages. Take your time aligning the drive shaft, midshaft and engine.

If you dont want to modify/deck the head keep that stock and try to track down a wetjet intake manifold and drop on a 46, use stock cages with carbontech reeds and you will be very happy with the increased performance. Add a pipe to that package and you will surely notice a big improvement.

Blueprint your pump. That will help give you some better hookup and it's a totally free mod. Might as well do the quick steer mod to your nozzle while you're in there, I love free mods :)
