I am new to the Jet ski world and just bought a Kawi 550. It ran fine before i bought it but as soon as i got it home It wouldnt start. I charged the battery and now when i try to start it it makes a buzzing sound but the engine wont turn over at all. can someone please help me out.

not the starter if you hear a buzzing sound. go back and check alll of your connections again even the one on the stater. you can see if its your starter by removing the flywheel cover if your convinced thats what it is.

i checked the starter and it it fine. I think it has to be something to deal with in the box in the back with all the wires in it. dont know what its called but theres a relay in there and it clicks when i try to start it

Not sure about newer 550s but my old 84 the relay ends stuck out of the elec box and the bat terminal wires bolted on there.

You can check for voltage on the terminal that goes to the starter when you press the start button. If you have voltage on the bat side and none on the other then the relay is likley bad.

If you hear a buzzing sound, it's one of two things. Either you have a porr connection from the ebox to the starter, or your starter is bad - Even if you bench test it and it spins freely, it may not under a load(trying to turn over the motor)

if you take the starter out and hook it up to a battery and it turns doesnt mean that its good. It could be weak and you need to test how strong it is by pushing a piece of wood on it while it spining and see if you can stop it real easy. If you can the starter is weak. If you cant then its got to be a weak connection somwhere. The poping you hear is the solinod opening letting power go to the starter.

check the starter solenoid inside the electric box and check your ground wire from battery to engine block.

this would make a very noticeable 'click'.
