Alright everybody now i dont know jack crap about how people get their hoods to retain only a little water and a whole lotta air so the big question is and im open to anything and everything, is what can you do or has anybody done anything to make a 550 hood take less water when submerged and just with wave riding, and still get all the air flow that a hi performance motor would need.
Help Me out here my dual bilges run too often i want to do a project too lets get some brain power into this.
thanks

and i do have hood straps if that makes any difference in your ideas.

Wait you work for Pacific Jet sports with Gordy?? Don't they have some pjs hoods or anything? wow i wish i had that job, but instead i make pizzas..
So what kind of vintage parts does Gordy got?

wow that looks great i can see the design and concept perfectly... just making that lining looks like a bitchandahalf. Especially sense the most experience i have with Fiberglass is feeling how much it sucks and itches after I Saw Ski's apart at work.
Im really interested though it would definetly make more sense if i had experience because idk where to start and what to buy... or how to make that mold in the first place! =/

those PJS hoods suck water in like a sponge. the breathers are at the TOP! they were great for racing, but if youre planning on getting the ski WET, you should make it breathe down low from the back of the hood.

that looks like my old ski ha ha, its's true that hood is good for straight up racing. it is light and flimsy and doesn't come with much a hood insert. it could be modded to work without to much trouble. there are holes in the back alread that could be enlarged and the top intakes could be filled.

Ya that sounds right now that i think about it.. but for more airflow its pretty cool.

yeah thats very true thats why i refused to use my light weight custom 440 race hood that thing has HUGE air ducts which are also tubelss water aqueducts right to my carb. yep well looks like im going to have to find me a hood in decent shape convince the boss to junk it take it home and start tinkering with it then learn me some fiberglassing and put something together

the holes on the top and front of the hood get filled in or blocked off and new ones are cut in the back of the hood near the tray. the liner should slope towards the back of the hood to those holes to drain water out if it gets in. the tubes that go through the liner should be a couple inches higher than the liner so that the void between the top of hood and the liner would have to fill up with that couple inches of water before it could get into the hull. does that make sence? look up the slutty hood mod it is a great mod for any stock hood.

I dont mean to be a burn out

but just sell the 550 and save and buy an SJ. A stock SJ is like x10000 times better tha most modded 550s.
